Il Rochambeau aveva rinvenuto il manoscritto del frammento poetico qui pubblicato nel villaggio di Thoré (Loire-et-Cher), in cui formava la copertina di un vecchio registro. "C'est, suivant l'opinion de MM. Paulin, Paris et P. Meyer, un fragment de la chanson de geste de Girbert de Metz, qui fait suite à celle de Garin-le-Lohérain. Le poëte y raconte les luttes que la mort de Garin fit naître entre la geste des Lorrains et celle de Bordelais". Francese
