La lotta per la visibilità è una delle principali ragioni di conflitto che le società occidentali hanno conosciuto in un periodo storico di lunga durata che arriva fino a oggi. Michel Foucault ne scrive in un piccolo saggio del 1977, "La vita degli uomini infami", ma in realtà tocca la questione durante tutto l’arco del suo percorso di ricerca. Pur non affrontandola mai in modo sistematico, ne lascia emergere lo spessore ogni volta che tratta problemi come l’esclusione e l’emarginazione sociale, la prigione, il crimine, le pratiche di costituzione del sé, ma anche esperienze estetiche come la letteratura e la produzione di immagini. Intorno alla lotta per la visibilità si gioca infatti una parte fondamentale dei rapporti fra gli individui e il potere. Non è un fenomeno a senso unico. Per un verso siamo catturati in un regime di visibilità sempre più esteso che mira ad afferrare ogni dettaglio delle nostre esistenze. Per un altro, conquistando nuove forme di visibilità, otteniamo dignità di parola nello spazio pubblico e rivendichiamo il nostro ruolo di soggetti politici. L’intreccio di potere, pratiche sociali ed estetica nella lotta per la visibilità è il nucleo intorno a cui ruotano gli studi di questo libro. Il loro obiettivo è portare l’attenzione su un tema finora trascurato e offrire le riflessioni di Foucault come spunto per ulteriori ricerche. Autori: Stefano Catucci.

Covers are made of heavy cardboard stock covered by an opaque white dust jacket attached to the cardboard which is covered by transparent glassine paper all as issued now in archival cover. 10.5 x 8.25 inches. Contents are snippets of essays by known authors accompanied by erotic photographs. Not paginated. 60 pages plus blanks complete as issued. Acetate cover is obviously fragile given the age but holding up surprisingly well. Text block slightly askance from boards but everything is sound. Interior has old pencil notation from prior seller; no folds stamps or writing. Overall very good or better. A scarce item suitable for collectors in this area. An uncommon item especially in this condition with glassine cover. Please see images of the book you will receive. Notes: To my mind this production is more than simple French erotica and should be viewed in context. This volume came out of 1937 Paris - a very difficult time that was about to get much worse. Il ripetuto ritorno di Michel Foucault al testo di Kant "Che cos'è l'illuminismo?" (1784) è rimasto per molto tempo ai margini nella ricezione del suo pensiero. Solo negli ultimi anni, dopo la pubblicazione dei corsi al Collège de France, ha conquistato una sua centralità nel vasto panorama degli studi foucaultiani. Il pionieristico lavoro di Rudy Leonelli ha l'indubbio merito di avere colto negli scritti dedicati all'illuminismo kantiano alcuni temi chiave della riflessione di Foucault, conducendo all'elaborazione di un'inedita idea di critica che è ancora carica di conseguenze per il presente. Al cuore della discussione vi è il ruolo e gli effetti del razionalismo europeo, la sua presunta universalità scossa, dopo la Seconda guerra mondiale, dalle esperienze drammatiche del XX secolo: la ragione non può essere oggetto di sacralizzazione, ma nemmeno può diventare bersaglio di una illusoria demolizione. Il problema che emerge con lucidità dalla lettura dei testi di Foucault su Kant proposta da Leonelli è quello della conflittualità interna del razionalismo moderno: la contraddizione tra l'esigenza di una critica radicale della razionalità occidentale e l'uso di mezzi essi stessi razionali utilizzati nell'analisi critica. Con grande originalità Leonelli individua una fertile biforcazione interna del progetto critico inaugurato da Kant: una via "tedesca", che va dai giovani hegeliani, Karl Marx, fino a Max Weber e alla Scuola di Francoforte; e una via "francese", che da Comte e dal positivismo del primo Ottocento si sviluppa nella scuola storica-epistemologica di Gaston Bachelard fino a Georges Canguilhem e allo stesso Foucault.
