Repairs to the joints and to the head and tail of the spine repairing small closed tears. Light bumping to the extremities. Hinges are starting but remain firm. Internally firmly bound. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally smart with some a few minor marks to the boards. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Lacking the front endpaper. Internally textblock is detached from the binding. Internally binding is a little strained in places. Pages are bright and clean with a few light handling marks. Half-title frontispiece title page and pages 8-10 are detached but present. Prior owner's ink inscription to the head of the half-title. These boxed prints are from the original blocks that were made for first private edition of 1901 including images that did not get included in the commercial publication. There are 34 gorgeously done prints brown ink on 100% cotton acid free paper. Each printed image has a tissue guard and is enclosed in its own gray folder with a number and an excerpt of text printed on it. There is also a separate booklet with an introduction by Maurice Sendak included. It is all contained in an original slate blue cloth-covered clamshell box.
