Throughout his long career, Picasso s eclectic genius was expressed in the lively interest he took in spectacles dance, circus, theater and the corrida even the pleasure he took in creating a spectacle of himself. These are the themes that this exhibition explores. Another theme that emerges implicitly are the close ties that this prodigious artist maintained with luminaries in many fields of creative endeavor: artists, writers, poets, musicians, and theater people. This circle, "Picasso s galaxy," made him, according to Pierre Cabanne, "one of the key figures and witnesses of the movements and transformations of one of the most extraordinary periods in art history." Arkas Art Center represents Turkey with the "Picasso: the Art of Spectacle" exhibition in the context of "Picasso-Méditerranée", a series of exhibitions in which various institutions from different countries participate. Fine French Original bdg. HC. 4to. In French and Turkish. 168 p., ills. Pierre Loti et les silhouettes de Hassan: Portraits avant La II. Constitution.= Pierre Loti ve Hasan silüetleri: II. Mesrutiyet öncesi portreler. The novelist Julien Viaud, famous for his nickname Pierre Loti, is a traveling maritime officer. At the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, he makes seven trips to Istanbul. In 1903, at the age of 53, Pierre Loti takes over Le Vautour, the first station ship to the French Embassy in Istanbul, during his fifth trip to Turkey. In the same period, Hasan signed cartoons start to circulate in Istanbul. The person who is hiding under Hasan is actually Robert de Guiroye, a naval officer. This person was then assigned to the auxiliary ship "La Mouette" (Seagull) under the command of Pierre Loti. It is thought that this officer made drawings on this ship in the evening after having spent a long time in important social clubs such as Cercle d'Orient, Pera Palas Ballroom, Tepebasi Theater. Who is actually Hasan / Who is the real Hasan? The answer to this problem is in the exhibition and detailed catalog. Let's see if they can help bring Hasan's identity to light. The "Pierre Loti and Hasan Silhouettes" exhibition is made up of documents obtained as a result of years of research by numerous collections and valuable collector Sayen Erol Makzume, who has vast knowledge of Hasan's lithographs in the early 20th century. The exhibition contains texts, cartoons and in-depth information, and sheds light on the transition period of Turkey after the Second Constitutional Monarchy.

Nazmi Ziya Güran, (1881-1937), was a Turkish Impressionist painter and art teacher. He was born in Istanbul. He did manage to obtain some private tutoring from Hoca Ali Riza then, following his father's death in 1902, he quietly enrolled at the Academy. He studied with the Italian Orientalist painter, Salvatore Valeri and the sculptor Osgan Efendi, but had some difficulty adapting to the school's conservative teaching methods and came into conflict with Osman Hamdi Bey, the Director. A meeting with the French painter Paul Signac, who visited Istanbul while sailing around the Mediterranean, may have influenced his desired style. The conflicts continued and, in 1907, when he submitted his final exam pictures, he found his graduation delayed by a year. Bedri Rahmi Eyuboglu was a Turkish painter and poet. His first one-man show was in Bucarest at the Hasefer Gallery in 1935. The exhibition was organized by his future wife Ernestine. They were married in Istanbul in 1936. Bedri Rahmi was a very prolific artist; he painted frescoes at the "Lido restaurant" in Istanbul (1943), a large panel at the Ankara Opera House (1946). First and Only Edition. OCLC 909450866.

New English Paperback. Pbo. 4to. (32 x 24 cm). Ills. In Turkish and English. 384 p. It is generally recognized that Greek painters from Istanbul contributed to a great extent to Ottoman and Turkish culture, beginning during the Byzantine era. Even after the end of the Byzantine era, however, Greek artists continued to play an active role in the development of art in Istanbul. Undeniably, one of the results of the Greeks having had to leave Turkey for political reasons has been the removal of an important treasure of art and culture from Istanbul. The beauty and splendor of Istanbul and the recurrent themes of migration and longing, are characteristic of the works of numerous Greek artists who left Istanbul at an early age and who developed or continued their artistic work in Greece or in various European countries. This book contains the biographies and more than five hundred works of nearly two hundred Greek artists of Istanbul.
New English Paperback. Pbo. 4to. (29 x 24 cm). In english and Turkish. 239, [5] p., color ills. 'Painter and Painting: A Mehmet Güleryüz Retrospective' presents an inventory of Güleryüz's oeuvre from the 1960s to the 2010s. The exhibition sheds light on the development and transformation of the artist's generous quest for expression, which ranges from painting, drawing, sculpture, and engraving to theater and performance. With his critical and expressionist style, Mehmet Güleryüz has earned himself a special and privileged place in the art scene in Turkey over half a century. His art centers on people and the sociopolitical conditions surrounding them. The artist, who was born in 1938, uses a critical and ironic language to express, through his figurative works, the effects of Turkey's sociocultural and political transformation on people. Love of family, male-female relationships, nature and living beings, and all the processes that influence oral and visual culture are manifested in his paintings as human acts. Güleryüz produces art through an approach that invites its viewers to take a stance, just like he does, and confront the processes they have experienced. Güleryüz studied at the State Academy of Fine Arts in the 1960s and made a mark in the Paris art environment in the 1970s with his happenings. From the 1980s on, he played an active part in the transformation of the art scene in Turkey. Güleryüz's art shows an unusual development, manifesting how an artist can generate his very own individual style. Güleryüz is also an active theater actor who performs on stage. The intimate connection he has established between theater and the visual arts is one of the most interesting examples of his interdisciplinary approach in art. Güleryüz's art is part of a social process: it is based on everyday perceptions and familiar and established feelings. Therefore, each work references the history of its own time. For nearly 60 years, Güleryüz's art has been charting its own course, becoming enriched and developing in the process. In terms of line and drawing, Mehmet Güleryüz has a unique character and style. For him, drawing is not simply an infrastructural element of painting, it is an artistic language in its own right. Drawing is to him a being that is as close to him as holding on to life, breathing, and celebrating one's existence. Mehmet Güleryüz has also produced countless works on the reflections of his drawings and paintings in the physical, three-dimensional world. Since the 1970s, he has produced important research on and examples of sculpture. Based on the human being's relationship with sculpture, he has followed the traces of his figures in the three-dimensional world.
