"Ekrem Hakki Ayverdi was raised at a time in which Istanbul was undergoing its late Ottoman-early Republican period. Apart from his persona as an engineer-architect, restorer, and architectural historian, he was a collector passionately dedicated to Ottoman art. Undertaking the construction of different public buildings in Istanbul, Bursa and Edirne, as well as the restoration of many architectural works, Ayverdi not only brought together the most select and refined works of Ottoman art, which had begun to lose its prestige amidst the changing values of high culture in the time he lived, but he also paid particular attention to their conservation and preservation. Ayverdi's two seminal corpuses that study Ottoman architecture from its early days until the end of the Mehmed II era, as well as its examples in Roumelia, continue to maintain their place as the most important reference books for those working in this field. Istanbul Research Institute commemorates Ekrem Hakki Ayverdi, his professional work, and his priceless collection with an exhibition in the 30th anniversary of his passing and hopes to bring together wide audiences with this versatile and colorful man of culture, who, as one of the last representative of a lost world, holds a unique place in Ottoman art studies and Ottoman architectural history in particular.".

Very Good German Paperback. Roy. 8vo. (24 x 17 cm). In German. 20 p., iv numerous b/w plates (Tafeln). Ein Weiteres Sultansbild von Gentile Bellini aus russischem Besitz. A study on Gentile Bellini, (1430-1507), was an Italian painter of the school of Venice. He came from Venice's leading family of painters, and at least in the early part of his career was more highly regarded than his younger brother Giovanni Bellini, the reverse of the case today. From 1474 he was the official portrait artist for the Doges of Venice, and as well as his portraits he painted a number of very large subjects with multitudes of figures, especially for the Scuole Grandi of Venice, wealthy confraternities that were very important in Venetian patrician social life. In 1479 he was sent to Constantinople by the Venetian government when the Ottoman Sultan Mehmed II requested an artist; he returned the next year. Thereafter a number of his subjects were set in the East, and he is one of the founders of the Orientalist tradition in Western painting. His portrait of the Sultan was also copied in paintings and prints and became known all over Europe.
New English Paperback. Pbo. 4to. (29 x 25 cm). In English and Turkish. 91 p., color ills. The works of outstanding contemporary artist and 2003 Turner Prize winner Grayson Perry (b. 1960) will be exhibited at Pera Museum, including tapestries, ceramics and prints. Organised in collaboration with the British Council and curated by Linsey Young from the British Council's Visual Arts Team, the exhibition reflects the artist's unrelenting fascination with issues of the everyday, of religion, class, and identity. Well-known for his transvestite alter ego "Claire", Perry's largest single body of work to date, The Vanity of Small Differences, composed of six tapestries from the British Council Collection, will also be exhibited. Though working within the context of contemporary art, Perry remains a practitioner of artisanal crafts and a lover of beauty. He rejects conceptual art as the sole claimant of 'ideas' and champions the decorative and intimate qualities of handmade objects with stories to tell. The ceramic medium that first drew Grayson Perry to craft practice continues to be a critical, and is perhaps the most traditionally beautiful, element of his work. In this exhibition, alongside the series of "The Vanity of Small Differences" the artist's earliest work, a ceramic pot from 2002, the period during which Perry was nominated for the Turner Prize; culminating in a self-portrait, 'A Map of Days,' which was completed in 2014 for a major exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery are also included. Linsey Young, curator of the exhibition "Small Differences" states that visitors will be able to explore the magnificent interior world of Grayson Perry. Through the complex and physically detailed narratives, the audience can observe motifs, such as planes, shopping centres, churches and temples, mobile telephones and of course the artist's beloved teddy bear, Alan Measles, which appear again and again in many different guises.

According to the "Great Man Theory", leaders are born with a set of specific skills and traits that makes an individual destined for a leadership position. Also known as a trait perspective to leadership, it suggests that certain individuals have special innate or inborn characteristics or qualities that differentiates them from non-leaders. Specifically, these characteristics were believed to include height, weight, appearance, intelligence, disposition and others. Furthermore, charismatic and inspirational leaders instil faith in a better future for the followers in terms of their self-expression, self-evaluation, and self-consistency. The history of Ottomans is complicated and complex in terms of its emperors from the beginning to the end, in addition to severe relations with Europe and Asia. In this sense, especially the ascension period constitutes great importance; because of the fact that the six emperors of the period turned the Ottoman State into an "Empire" with their individual traits and acts. Therefore, it is worth to consider them as "great men" and evaluate them in this frame in order to construe the claim. It is expected that this book sheds light to the future researches in terms of evaluating both the emperors of Ottoman Empire and the other World emperors in terms of great man theory.
