New English Paperback. Pbo. Roy. 8vo. In English. 295 p. This book aims to generate a set of ideas on the East West relations through the prisms of academics and intellectuals from Turkey and Bosnia Herzegovina, who had exchanged and discussed their ideas in a conference titled as "The Conference on East West Relations: Past, Present and Future." The Conference was jointly organized by Ramazan Gözen on behalf of the Ankara Center for Thought and Research Center (ADAM) and Ertugrul Tacgin on behalf of the Inter national University of Sarajevo (IUS), and held in the IUS, Sarajevo, on 14-15 February 2008 with a grant from Turkish International Co operation and Development Agency (TIKA). A set of related issues were discussed from different academic perspectives in two panels and four sessions. The first panel focused on historical and contemporary perspectives or the East-West relations, and the second panel on Bosnia Herzegovina's and Turkey's relations with the European Union, focusing on their integration and membership processes. To this end, the Conference brought together representatives from academia, business community, government, specialized NGOs and think tanks from the region. The book includes 15 chapters which are divided into three subject areas: History, International Politics, and Economics.

Images of our time: Works from the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo.= Günümüz imgeleri: Saraybosna Güzel Sanatlar Akademisi'nden yapitlar. [Exhibition catalogue]. The Academy of Fine Arts at the University of Sarajevo was founded in 1972 as the first Academy of Fine Arts in Bosnia and Herzegovina and became one of the forerunners in Bosnian contemporary art. An openness for diverse artistic poetics, a departure from strict academism, flexibility of curricula in interaction with the wider social community, synergy between traditional design knowledge and skills and new media challenges have all led the numerous graduates from the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo to become recognised artists, designers and professors throughout the world. The exhibition catalogue presents an essay by curator Aida Abadzic Hodzic discussing the contemporary interpretations of Bosnian young artists and works in various media created by undergraduate and graduate students, as well as graduates of the six faculties of the academy, including painting, sculpture, art education, printmaking, graphic and product design. The works survey contemporary art in Bosnia Herzegovina and offers comments and reflections by its young artists on the history, and social, political, economic and cultural issues of the country.

New English Paperback. Pbo. Demy 8vo. (21 x 14 cm). In English. 119 p. Late Ottoman system in the Balkans in the light of the Late Ottoman educational Ijazahs. The study of ijazah tradition, its history and its impact is somehow neglected by both Muslim and non-Muslim researchers and scholars alike. This significantly unique tradition of the Muslim educational system has a long history as it emerged and developed parallel to Islamic education itself, and was in practice for more than a millennium. However, after adapting the new educational system during the late 19th century and throughout 20th century until the present, the tradition of granting ijazah drastically began to decline and to extent became a part of history as it was practised among countable scholars, who express their will to keep this distinctive Muslim tradition alive. During the 3rd century of Hijrah/9th century of C.E., this tradition had a strong impact to the higher learning institutions of Europe, where it is believed that granting diploma/license was the product of the Muslim tradition ofijazah, but in terms of the form and content the former differed completely from the latter. Besides the central regions of the Muslim world, the ijazah system appeared and practised extensively in the periphery, where this can be clearly seen in the regions of Southeast Asia and Southeast Europe. Though modern-day diploma replaced ijazah, this practice is still alive in certain parts of these regions; however, it is not recognised "officially" by the government higher learning institutions. Up to this moment, this research managed to interview and discuss with number of 'ulama who have been granted ijazah from their preceding scholars from various countries of the Balkans.
