20639New York: Voluntary Parenthood League. Softcover. Very good. Undated ca. 1920. 4 pp ca. 6 x 8 inches self wrappers. Some old creasing general handling wear; very good. Social reformer Mary Ware Dennett 1872-1947 founded the Voluntary Parenthood League in 1919. The organization's main goal was to change the Comstock Laws so information about birth control would not be deemed obscene and could legally be distributed by mail. In this pamphlet Dennett argues that just as humans eat for pleasure as well as from necessity and just as they chose stylish clothes rather than the simplest thing that will keep them warm so there are "similar emotional mental moral and spiritual values to be derived from this function sexual relations." Getting "the Birth Control question straightened out" she argues "is the first imperative step. It will open the way for all the rest. And presently it will be as natural to apply science and art to sex relations as it is now to the matters of food clothes and shelter." Voluntary Parenthood League paperback books

Chitral a remote mountainous region in the north of modern-day Pakistan was the subject of a power struggle between Czarist Russia and the British Empire. In early 1895 the British fort at Chitral was attacked and beseiged by Pashtun chief Umra Khan who sought official recognition. Relief troops were sent from Gilgit to the East and then in a second wave--described in this book--from India proper. The author joined this relief force as press correspondent. 1962106054<p>Small black and white folio program 8 1/2" x 11" pictorial front page 4 pp. Other than some normal aging this is in very nice condition. Scarce and unusual complimentary type program that were handed out to fans at Yankee Stadium. Since the second page refers to games 34 and 5 it appears the first two games had already been completed. The first page includes a black and white photo of Yankee Stadium illustrating an actual game. The front page gives historical series results and attendance numbers. The two inside pages were meant to help the fan keep score. This copy is unmarked. The back page gives player stats for both teams. An unusual and somewhat scare bit of World Series history. The Yanks took this series in seven games despite a poor performance from Mantle and Maris.</p> books
