First two pages loosening from rest of text block but not detached. Speeches delivered in the months leading up to the passage of the Coinage Act in June 1834. The brief publisher's introduction notes: "Upon reading through the whole of these occasional speeches of Mr. Webster they appear to treat the subject of currency so clearly and to state its importance not then so generally felt as it now is so fully and they show so far-sighted and perfect a discernment of the consequences of the measures which Government was at the time pursuing that is has been thought useful to make a small collection of extracts of these several performances and to publish them together." First edition.

French Guiana French: Guyane française officially Guyane is an overseas department French: département d'outre-mer or DOM of France located on the northern coast of South America. It has borders with two nations Brazil and Suriname. Like the other DOMs French Guiana is also an overseas region of France one of the 26 regions of France. Its currency is the euro. The prefecture is Cayenne. The addition of the adjective "French" comes from colonial times when three such colonies existed: British Guiana now Guyana Dutch Guiana now Suriname and French Guiana. The three are still often collectively referred to as the Guianas. French Guiana was originally inhabited by a number of indigenous American people. It was settled by the French during the 17th century. After the Treaty of Paris in 1763 Louis XV sent 12000 settlers to French Guiana to colonise the region. One and a half years later only a few hundred survived.2 Its infamous Île du Diable Devil's Island was the site of penal settlements from 1852 until 1951. More than 70000 French convicts were deported to French Guiana between 1852 and 1939.3 In 1809 a Portuguese-British naval squadron took French Guiana for the Portuguese Empire. With the signing of the Treaty of Paris in 1814 the region was handed back to the French though a Portuguese presence remained until 1817. A border dispute with Brazil arose in the late nineteenth century over a vast area of jungle leading to the short-lived pro-French independent state of Counani in the disputed territory and some fighting between settlers before the dispute was resolved largely in favor of Brazil by the arbitration of the Swiss government.

Condition:

Front inner hinge cracked rubbing to hinges and corners some internal foxing else a very good copy. The word 'aardvark' is Afrikaan for 'earthpig' and reflects the look of the long nose of the aircraft that might remind one of the nose of the aardvark. Developed in the 1960s by General Dynamics it entered service in 1967 with the United States Air Force.

The F-111 pioneered several technologies for production aircraft including variable-sweep wings afterburning turbofan engines and automated terrain-following radar for low-level high-speed flight. Its design influenced later variable-sweep wing aircraft and some of its advanced features have since become commonplace." Wiki

While the US transitioned to other aircraft in the late '90s the F-111 continued in service with the RAAF until December 2010.

As Mr. Cosby's introductory note states "These photographs portray the sequence of events of 21 December 1964." No doubt only a limited number of these binders were made mostly likely for visiting dignitaries which makes this a rare promotional photodocumentary of the F-111A's first flight.

At the time of cataloguing we find no copies elsewhere in the market nor listed on OCLC. 184021029New York: Wm. C. Martin 1840. First Edition. Hardcover. Good. 6 x 4 inches pp viii 1 10-71 1 errata in publisher's green cloth stamped in blind and gilt. Moderate foxing throughout frontis portrait of the author lacking but still a good of a scarce book. The Appendix is titled "Times of Refreshing; or A Narrative of a Revival of Religion at Patchogue L.I. in 1834 & 1835." This account of a pious woman whose selfless devotion to the spiritual nurturing of others led to spiritual renewal in her community reflects common sentiments about the social role of women in nineteenth century America generally and particularly during the period of revival and reform known as the Second Great Awakening. Women were seen as critical to maintaining social order by providing moral guidance to their families and serving as role models of Christian piety. Thus Gammage writes that while Louisa Liscum "endeavored to to utmost of her ability to promote the present comfort and happiness of her children she regarded their spiritual and eternal interests as supremely important and as demanding her first and chief attention." Moreover as she prayed for the spiritual well-being of her own family "her tears were witnessed in the house of God" and "many of the careless became deeply anxious about their own eternal interests and came forward in the prayer meetings to request an interest in the prayers of God's people." 19512436Hollinwood/Lancs: Ferranti Ltd 1951. First edition. Very Good. FIRST EDITION IN ORIGINAL WRAPPERS OF THE MANUAL FOR ONE OF THE FIRST VIDEO GAMES. VERY POSSIBLY THE FIRST COMPUTER GAME MANUAL. Although they were "keen to be involved" in the 1951 Festival of Britain electrical engineering firm and computing pioneer Ferranti was still without an exhibit by late 1950. John Bennet an employee of the firm stepped up and suggested the construction of a machine that could play Nim a matchstick game in which players compete to force a final move.

The Nimrod is considered to be the first or second computer game ever constructed depending on how one defines the term and is certainly the first to be constructed and played outside of North America. It was inspired by the Nimatron an "electro-mechanical machine exhibited at the 1940 World's Fair in New York City" that also played Nim Donovan which isn't typically considered a computer and followed only Toronto's Bertie the Brain built in 1950 which played tic-tac-toe.

The manual which includes a technical description of the computer appears to be the first of its kind as we can locate no records of any user manuals or pamphlets for the Nimatron or Bertie the Brain both of which were also presented and played at public festivals.

The game was tremendously well received both at Festival of Britain and at the Berlin Industrial Show in the same year. It is reported that it drew politicians and academics notably including Alan Turing who is rumored to have been one of the few to beat it!

Sources: Donovan T. 2010. Replay: The history of video games.
