The instrument consists of at least 23 cast bronze cup-shaped bells which are played serially to produce a melody or together to play a chord. A traditional manual carillon is played by striking a keyboard—the stick-like keys of which are called batons—with the fists and by pressing the keys of a pedal keyboard with the feet. The keys mechanically activate levers and wires connected to metal clappers which strike the bells."

Here this Carillon "was installed and inaugurated in the presenced of His Excellency the Viscount Willingdon Governor General of Canada at noon on the first day of July 1927 on the occasion of the celebration of the sixtieth anniversary of the Confederation of Canada."

Uncommon no copies located on OCLC. Influential manual for mothers and nurses by Holt 1855-1924 an American author physician and pioneer in the field of pediatrics who helped shape the New York Babies Hospital into the leading pediatric facility of its time. The book was expanded from Holt's Catechism for Nurses 1893 a pamphlet prepared for nursery-maids during their four months training at the Babies Hospital. "The nurses studied the catechism and when they graduated took it with them. There followed requests for copies from their employers and the supply was soon exhausted. It was apparent there was a popular demand for something of the kind. The catechism was expanded and in 1894 The Care and Feeding of Children made its appearance.Probably no one would have been more surprised than Dr. Holt or his publishers had they been told that they were launching a volume that was to go through seventy-five printings and which was to be translated into Spanish Russian and Chinese. The book became the mainstay of many a worried mother and exerted no inconsiderable influence on the profession as well for the practitioners had to keep abreast of the pediatric knowledge which the mothers possessed" DUFFUS R.L. L. Emmett Holt. NY 1940 pp.116-117.

Prior to the publication of The Care and Feeding of Children there was no standard text for pediatric care in print for laymen or medical professionals. A revolutionary volume written in clear simple language providing an orderly presentation of pediatric knowledge which empowered women to care for their children. A cornerstone work responsible for "lifting child sickness and care out of the neglect of the past" Dunn Peter M. "Dr. Emmett Holt 1855-1924 and the foundation of North American paediatrics." 1973CNJL1048London: Printed at the Trianon Press for the Trustees of the William Blake Trust 1973. Limited Edition. Hardcover. Fine. Blake William. Number 340 of 750 quarto size unpaginated. "The Book of Ahania" is one of Blake's lesser-known works and is generally agreed to be a continuation of "The Book of Urizen" with Ahania being the feminine manifestation of Urizen signifying pleasure. According to Geoffrey Keynes' Description this text " .along with "The Book of Los" were some of the last of the series of Illuminated Books completed by Blake while living in Lambeth. The manner of their execution suggest that he was wearying with the effort of making the splendid books that preceded them and was seeking for a less laborious method of production. Blake completed only one copy of each book and then laid them aside as if dissatisfied with his experiment. He never included either of them in any list of his productions and is not known to have disposed of them to any customer or patron. They therefore remained unknown until late in the nineteenth century."

William Blake 1757-1827 is arguably the most original and highly-regarded English author - unusual in that he excelled both as an author and an artist. Although thought mad by his contemporaries he was held in high regard for his expressiveness and for the synthesis of philosophical and mystical senses within his work. Blake's work has been spectacularly reproduced through the pochoir technique by Arnold Fawcus and his Trianon Press which has an undeniable claim to being the finest press of its kind in the last century and has long been known for their unrivaled artworks in fine colour printing.

___DESCRIPTION: Original quarter blue morocco with hand-marbled paper sides backstrip lettered in gilt six colour plates reproduced by the collotype and pochoir process printed on Arches pure rag paper made to match the paper used by Blake; quarto size 11.5" by 9.25" unpaginated 6 plates and 5 pp. commentary limited edition no. 340 of 750 of the regular edition with 808 total copies. The victim had to be transported 10 miles to a hospital in San Leandro. $50 was collected from 18 of her women friends and the Fabiola Association was formed. The focus of the group was to provide medical assistance for all regardless of financial circumstances. The name Fabiola comes from Saint Fabiola a woman in 4th century Rome who started the first hospital for sick and needy travelers. The Fabiola Hospital was built 10 years later at the intersection of New Broadway and Moss Avenue now Broadway and West MacArthur Blvd. on 2-1/2 acres of land donated by Anthony Chabot. After the construction of the hospital a nursing school was established along with a diet kitchen and a visiting nurse service." localwiki "In this our frist Annual the serious helpful side of nursing is presented as well as the 'little nonsense' inseparable from wholesome living. We have tried to make a book which will be to our friends and ourselves a reflection of our school and its influences.
