The Duke of Saint-Simon also known as Louis de Rouvroy was a French soldier diplomat and memoirist. His works are crucial for the study of French literature and give a full and comprehensive account of the court at Versailles of Louis XIV and the Regence at the start of his reign. In the original full cloth binding. Externally smart with shelf wear to the edges and marks to the boards. Slight fading to the spine. Spotting to the paste-downs and free endpapers. The hinges in volume one are starting but firm. Internally firmly bound.
