Originally the Regiments of the 87th and 89th Foot The Royal Irish Fusilliers were raised in Dublin in 1793 as part of the British Army's response to the Napoleonic War. Known as the "Faughs" from their battle cry "Faugh-A-Ballagh" which translated to "Clear the Way" and is now recognised throughout the world as their Regimental motto. The Napoleonic War took them through Europe Egypt South America West Indies and Canada. Post-1853 the regiment fought in the Crimean Anglo-Burmese and Boer Wars. The regiment is referred to slightly differently in each place. Small 8vo. 137 pp. plus the preliminary pages. The author pioneered the idea of the regimental history.
