Blue pencil notation at top of page 1 some insect damage in margins. This memorandum established the First Provisional High Burst Ranging Section in the vicinity of Verdun. The document discusses the four methods of adjustment using high bursts direct adjustment adjustment on an auxiliary target registration of an adjusted firing and adjustment against balloons and gives direction for the use of fuse setter. This was issued by the Headquarters 30th Artillery Brigade C.A.C. as Instruction Memorandum No. 22 transmitting General Order No. 18 dated 9 November 1918. Rare. Am Expeditionary Force unknown
1863100042<p>8vo original brown cloth spine gilt letters illustrated with 39 engraved plates xvi 261 3 blank plus 39 leaves with illustrations. Spine ends chipped top hinge weak edges rubbed endpapers browned light foxing. This work was originally published in 1851 and followed with a second edition in 1862. The third edition contains a seven page addendum on the "Service of a 15-inch gun mounted on a centre-pintle iron carriage" that appears to have been omitted from the previous edition. The 1863 edition also appears to have been published hastily as the added chapter on the 15-inch gun is not listed in the table of contents. Also the spine on the volume is still dated 1862. This work was also reissued by the Confederate States in 1861 and 1862. The illustrations were engraved by D. McClelland after sketches by Lieutenant R.H. Rush of the 2nd Artillery Battalion.</p> Government Printing Office hardcover

Brown textured cloth with darkened gilt spine lettering decorative stamping in blind 348 pages plus plates. Includes the engraved bookplate of John D. Vautier Philadelphia who served in the 88th Pennsylvania Volunteers and who wounded at Cold Harbor in 1864. Some minor fraying to spine ends good hinges firm text block clean pages with some minor uniform age-toning to plates small coffee colored stain near the bottom of about a half dozen pages near the front of the book bookplate as noted no other names or markings.
