A vividly-written account of Deane-Drummond's eventful service career. His wartime service culminated with Divisional Signals at Arnhem where he was captured, only to escape yet again after spending 13 days and nights in a broom cupboard. With errata leaf at end. The coloured frontispiece depicts the colours; the plates include two of uniform and two of regiment badges. Extensive appendices detail succession of officers, alphabetical roll of officers, bases, annual enrolled strengths 1758-1875 and much other information. Published to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary, this is the finest overall treatment of the airborne battle (Operation MARKET). It is Middlebrook at his best, painstakingly combining many valuable vernacular accounts with a characteristically well-researched view of the background. Note that it does not cover the ground forces making their way towards Arnhem (Operation GARDEN). A beautiful copy of a superb tribute.
