Also includes a bit of music.Title translates as "The Yellow Book. Data on the War Losses of Hungarian Jewry. 1941-1945." One of the earliest book about the Hungarian Holocaust. Published by Hechaluc (Hehalutz), the Zionist resistant movement, whose legendary headquarters was located at the Üvegház (Glasshouse) in Budapest, a former glass-store. During the Holocaust about 3000 people found shelter there and it was the center for producing fake identification documents to save Hungarian Jews from persecution. Shraga Weil (Ferenc Ferdinánd; 1918-2009) was a Hungarian born Israeli painter. He studied at the Academy of Art in Prague and École des Beaux Arts in Paris. During WWII he was active in the Zionist underground movement in Budapest, working in the workshop for forging documents. After the war he sailed for Palestine on an illegal immigrant ship and became a member of Kibbutz Ha'ogen where he lived until his death. In 1959 Weil was awarded the Dizengoff Prize for painting. He created the doors of the main entrance to the Knesset building and the President's residence in Jerusalem. Weil painted the wooden panels in the Israeli Hall at the Kennedy Center. Sándor Groszmann (Alexander Grossmann, Ben Erec; 1909-2003) was a journalist and publisher, one of the main activists of the Hungarian Zionist movement and co-founder of "Hashomer Hatzair" in Hungary. He was one of the leaders at the "Glasshouse". "When the argument arose about whether to absorb more Jews into the 'Glass House' as they might endanger the lives of those already living there, he said: 'For the sake of one hundred thousand Jews it is worth to endanger our own lives'". (Gur, D.; 2007). After the liberation he was the secretary of JDC (American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee) in Budapest and member of the board of the Hungarian Zionist Association and of the "Eretz-Israel" office. In 1949 he left Hungary and after living in Austria and Israel he settled down in Switzerland where he started to publish books and the periodical "Jöv?" (Future). Very Good Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) Original autograph letter signed as 'Lütfullah' sent to Vasfi Riza Zobu. 1 p. In Ottoman script. No letterhead. It starts as 'Aziz agabeyimiz Vasfi bey' [= Our beloved brother]. Dated February 17, 1946. Lütfullah Sururi, one of the first artists who contributed to the current level in the coming opera in Turkey. He is one of the first operetta tenors after Cemal Sahir. They performed many times together with his wife Suzan Lütfullah (the first Turkish and Muslim primadonna). He is one of the founders of the Public Operetta and Süreyya Opera House. He was the director of Istanbul Theaters until his death after his wife's death. He joined the Muhlis's Operette Ensemble (Muhlis Sabahattin Operetta Community) and took on the 'Jeune' roles, he sang tenor songs on the stage for many years. Vasfi Riza Zobu, (1902-1992), was born on December 5, 1902, in Constantinople, Ottoman Empire. He was an actor, known for Tosun Pasha (1939), Karim Beni Aldatirsa (1933) and Milyon Avcilari (1934). He died on November 23, 1992, in Istanbul, Turkey. Extremely rare.
2 vols., 8vo., First Edition, with a folding facsimile on blue stock and a double-page map as frontispieces, a folding map and a double-page map, and two large folding maps (one coloured in outline) in pocket at rear of second volume, some very mild occasional foxing, fore-edges dusty; original decorative cloth blocked in blind, gilt backs, uncut, covers moderately soiled (boards to volume two stained with black ink), volume one neatly rebacked with original backstrip (faded) laid down else a good, firm, sound copy of a work scarce in any condition. This volume bears the neat contemporary signature of 'Frank Cooper' and the following holograph inscription: 'Maps drawn by my brother Harry, who was with Colonel Colley as Adjutant of Transport. Col. Colley, afterwards Sir G[eorge]. Pomeroy Colley, was killed in the fatal action of Majuba Hill in Natal fighting against the Boers'. Henry Brackenbury was Assistant Military Secretary to Wolseley; Cooper (as stated correctly above) was sometime Adjutant of Transport during the campaign. The official records were placed by Wolseley at Brackenbury's disposal 'without reservation' and augmented by the latter's private journal which he kept whilst serving at headquarters. The account of Captain Glover's expedition is taken entirely from letters between Wolseley and himself. The missions of Captains Butler and Dalrymple are described from their own letters. Frank Cooper's signature is dated 1874; the Battle of Majuba Hill took place on 27th February 1881 during the First South African War (this action was, incidentally, the last occasion on which British regimental colours were carried into battle). It would seem, therefore, that this was originally Frank Cooper's copy (until at least 1881) which then passed into the Brackenbury family. It was then in the library of Major-General Charles Booth Brackenbury (1831-1890) and bears his signature on the half-title of the second volume. The author's elder brother, he spent his career in the Royal Artillery culminating in his appointment as Director of Artillery Studies at Woolwich, from which position no-one did more to spread sound ideas throughout the service on tactical changes demanded by the advancement in weapons technology. On Charles's death this copy passed to his youngest son, Hereward Irenius Brackenbury and bears his engraved armorial bookplate on front paste-down of first volume. Hereward Brackenbury was a talented engineer and director of the prominent defence contractor Hawthorn Leslie & Co. The Brackenbury family was well represented in nearly all the British wars of the nineteenth century. THIS IS AN IMPORTANT AND DESIRABLE FAMILY COPY SHOWING MULTIPLE ASSOCIATIONS WITH THE AUTHOR OF A CLASSIC VICTORIAN CAMPAIGN MEMOIR.

Original 1945 edition Adolf Burgers memoirs about his journeys through the Nazi concentration camps and his work in the counterfeiting workshop in Oranienburg, narrated by Sylva and Oskar Krejci. His memoirs are the basis for the film, The Counterfieters, which won the 2007 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Adolf Burger took up a job in a printing house in Bratislava in 1938 he became one of those who received government-sponsored waivers from deportations as someone with skills indispensable for the country's economy. At the request of resistance members, Burger began to print false baptismal certificates for Jews scheduled for deportation, which stated that they had been Roman Catholic from birth, or baptized so before World War II. Slovaks with such documents were not deported. Burger's activity was discovered. He was deported to the Auschwitz concentration camp After eighteen months at Auschwitz-Birkenau, Burger's training came through for him once more. He was selected for Operation Bernhard, transferred to the Sachsenhausen concentration camp in April 1944, and eventually to the Ebensee site of the Mauthausen camp network where he was liberated by the US Army on 6 May 1945 (Wikipedia, 2016) . Siena, nella stamperia del sereniss. e Reverendissimo Princ. Card. Governatore, appresso Onofrio Jacobilli, 1708, in-folio, legatura coeva in piena pelle (spellature), dorso a sei nervi con titolo e fregi in oro negli scomparti (oro consumato), tagli spruzzati, pp. [10], 71, [5]. Con 10 incisioni in rame f.t. (3 ripiegate, 7 a piena pagina), numerate I-X e 7 tavole (quindi fuori fascicolazione) tipografiche recanti la descrizione di altrettante illustrazioni. Manca, come in molti esemplari, la tavola con l'illustrazione n. XI. Variante con la dedica a Gian Gastone impressa su due carte (in caratteri più grandi rispetto a quella dove è impressa su una sola carta). Gora alla parte inferiore di alcune carte. Ex-libris Conte di Torino.
