William Parks 1699-1750 was a printer and journalist in England and colonial North America. Parks came to North American in 1726 where he started a print shop in Annapolis Maryland. Parks moved to colonial Williamsburg in 1736 where he became Williamsburg's postmaster and founded Virginia's first newspaper the Virginia Gazette. Through collaboration with Benjamin Franklin Parks was the founder of a paper mill in Williamsburg which began construction in 1742 and was complete in 1743; the first paper mill in colonial America south of Pennsylvania and the first paper mill built in Virginia. William Archer Rutherfoord Goodwin was an Episcopal priest historian and author. As the rector of Bruton Parish Church Goodwin began the twentieth-century preservation and restoration effort which resulted in Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia. He is thus sometimes called the "Father of the Restoration of Colonial Williamsburg." See: Wikipedia. P6430Prague: Orbis 1940. Octavo 19 Ã 12.2 cm. Original printed boards; 223 4 pp. In the original brown card slipcase. Tiny nick to spine; else very good or better. First edition of this collection of broadcast speeches by Emanuel Moravec 1893-1945 a Czech soldier journalist and a leading collaborator with the German Protectorate regime. Before WWII Moravec had been a staunch patriot who defended an alliance with France and the Soviet Union and received the Bat'a Prize in 1937. Following the 1938 Munich Pact however Moravec turned sides and under Heydrich and Karl Hermann Frank he rose to prominence ultimately serving as minister of education and furthering the goal of "Germanizing" Czech culture and schooling. His influence was so strong that the Czech Resistance at one point suggested him as an alternate target to Heydrich himself. He shot himself during the Prague Uprising to avoid being captured. 20612In a music studio seated at an Ehrbar piano.
With an autograph note signed to verso dated Vienna September 24 1936 addressed to the Colombian musicologist Otto de Greiff.
With Bittner's return address stamp in purple ink to upper left corner "Julius Bittner Wien IX Dietrichsteingasse 10."

Very slightly worn. In very good condition overall. "Although Bittner's output embraces orchestral and chamber music a large-scale Mass and several lieder and choruses he devoted most of his creative energies towards writing for the stage. His passion for opera was fuelled by attending a performance of Lohengrin at the age of 12 and following the precedent set by Wagner he wrote the librettos for 15 of his own operas. Although his early attempts at the genre were not performed publicly his friendship with the conductor Bruno Walter proved decisive in establishing his reputation primarily with the opera Der Musikant produced in Vienna in 1910. His most successful work was Das höllisch Gold 1916 in which he emulated the example of his older compatriot Wilhelm Kienzl in attempting to merge the principles of German Singspiel with a post-Wagnerian harmonic language."
