With fabric swatches attached. On wove paper. Sheet size 355 x 270 mm.<br /> <br /> Minor wear. "The play documents the changing fortunes of three married couples. Each act takes place at a Christmas celebration at one of the couples' homes on successive Christmas Eves. It made its world premiere at the Library Theatre Scarborough on 26 June 1972 and its London début at the Criterion Theatre on 4 July 1973 transferring to the Vaudeville Theatre in September 1974 completing a run of 973 performances. Its official New York Broadway début was at the Music Box Theatre on 8 October 1974. It ran for 591 performances in its first run on Broadway through March 1976. It starred Richard Kiley Geraldine Page Sandy Dennis Carole Shelley Larry Blyden and Tony Roberts.1 It was revived on Broadway on 18 October 2005 at the Biltmore Theatre for 56 performances." Directed by Fritz Boettger.This portrait of an unknown working class women demonstrates the conflict faced by all employed women in the modern era the struggle between the requirements of their profession and their role in the family. As a wife and mother Kollwitz sympathized with such women even though she was one of the lucky few that could afford a domestic servant to help her around the house. This allowed her to work on her art in the mornings and spend time with her family in the evenings. On one hand Kollwitz expressed the desire to be free of her domestic ties in order to be able to focus more intensely on art. However she also appreciated feeling needed by her husband and two sons.
