Published in the sixtieth anniversary year of the battle, this is the most comprehensive and detailed single-volume history to date, with a very good selection of photographs (a number of which were censored at the time). Classic account of the wartime exploits of Otto Skorzeny, including the liberation of Mussolini, the snatching of Horthy from Budapest Castle and the 'disguised brigade' which confused the Americans on their way into Germany. Laycock's foreword gives the historical context and looks ahead to the increasing need for units like the RM Commandos and the SAS in the future of military operations. Enser, p.406
8vo., First Edition, with 33 plates on 16; burgundy cloth, gilt back, a fine copy in unclipped dustwrapper. Long overdue biography of one of the most distinguished British soldiers of WWII. A fitting tribute to a great soldier.
