Binder's stamp of Sotheran to the verso of the front free end paper. Illustrated with a frontispiece and 18 plates. Collated complete. Jacques Bainville 1879-1936 was a French historian journalist and geopolitical theorist who was concerned by Franco-German relations and was a leading figure in the monarchist Action Française. This is his biography of Ludwig II 1845-1886 King of Bavaria from 1864 to 1886. In a half morocco binding. Externally very smart with bumping to the boards and a little rubbing to the extremities and to the head of the spine. Colour and gilt remain bright. Front hinge is strained but is holding firm. In publisher's original quarter cloth and pictorial paper boards with original glassine wraps. Externally very smart with just a little bumping to the extremities. Front board is slightly age toned with a scattering of spots but colour is still bright. Internally firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean except for some spotting to the fore edge and the first and last few pages.
