Esprit Flechier was a French preacher and author who served as the Bishop of Nimes from 1687 to 1710. Flechier was widely considered as one of the great orators of the seventeenth century and is best remembered for his funeral orations for such important figures as the Duchesse de Montausier the Duchesse d'Aiguillon and Marshal Turenne. Complete in three volumes. This set is in the original French. In the contemporary polished full calf bindings. Externally smart. A very small amount of rubbing to the head and tail of spine as well as to joints. Small loss to the head of spine to volume II and I. Small portions of the spine labels are lacking to volumes I and III. A few marks to boards. Prior owners' inscriptions to the front pastedown and to the recto of front endpaper. Very small loss to the upper extremity of front free-endpaper volume II. Internally firmly bound. Pages are generally bright with just the odd spots and occasional handling mark.
