Boards with gilt ornamented border and small gilt floral vignettes in identical contemporary slipcase. = A beautifully made and extremely well-preserved almanac from Northern Italy. The slipcase has an ingeniously designed cloth ribbon that if pulled gently lifts the book out of the box. On the front free endpaper recto and last blank recto a few annotations in an old hand otherwise clean and in very good condition. hardcover

With the woodcut coat of arms of The Hague on the title page. XII 142 2 60 pp. The first issue of a series of city almanacs for The Hague containing apart from the calendar and usual contents of almanacs extensive information on the institutes schools churches magistrates etc. of the city as well as important rules and laws an average citizen would need to know such as those for funerals. The publisher and composer of the work the Dutch-Jewish journalist and publisher Mozes Cohen Belinfante 1761-1827 published the almanac until his year of death. His younger brother Jacob Belinfante dates unknown continued the series under the title sGravenhaagsche Stadts-Almanak from 1830 until 1839.With a later ownership annotation on the verso of the front wrapper. The spine has been rubbed with loss of material the wrappers are somewhat browned with a water stain on the front. The leaves are somewhat browed and foxed. Otherwise in good condition.l Ned.
