Amber and Blue Airways- northbound odd thousand foot levels; southbound even thousand foot levels. This comprehensive plan enabled the commerce of the sky to operate in an orderly manner. There were a few planes that were pressurized in 1941. The bulk of flights took place below today's heights. This map is dated June 1 1941. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration NASA is an independent agency of the U.S. federal government responsible for the civilian space program as well as aeronautics and space research.
