8vo. 13, (1) pp., final blank. Original printed wrappers. Extremely rare pamphlet by Lenin concerning the party's historic split into Bolshevik and Menshevik factions, titled in German: "Parteibeho[e]rden gegen die Partei" (the Russian title translates as: "Declaration and documents concerning the schism between central institutions and party"). The pamphlet was printed in January 1905 by the Russian Social Democatic Workers' Party. - In this harsh and bilious text Lenin criticizes three party members, Glebov-Avilov, Valentin, and Nikitich, whom he accuses of double-dealing and anti-Bolshevik agitation. All three were members of the Central Committee, as was Lenin himself. Although Bolsheviks and Mensheviks formally constituted two different parties in 1905, they were in fact still close, and what Lenin calls the three members' "treason" was merely their sympathy and agitation for the Mensheviks. Unlike Lenin, most Bolshevik leaders were still prepared to co-operate with their former allies and even harboured hopes for reunification. Lenin's views of the time, as evidenced in this brochure, held a fringe position even within his own faction. His text, however, was widely distributed among the local committees and helped Lenin achieve increasing popularity. A suggestion voiced by "Vpered" that the work be translated into all European languages as soon as possible never materialized. - From the collection of Marcel Bekus with his small oval stamp on the reverse of the title page. Binding loosened; upper cover and title page loose. A few pencil notes to wrappers, but well-preserved. OCLC 85287907.
8vo. 38, (2) pp. Original printed wrappers. Stapled. First edition of this manifesto of Leninism: the very scarce elucidation and expansion of the "April Theses", Lenin's statement of the principles that the Bolsheviks must adopt in the evolving revolution. Developed into a coherent party platform, the work was printed in September 1917, one month before the Bolsheviks seized power and put the policies into action. - In April 1917 Lenin returned from exile, and moved to take control of the Bolshevik Party and reorientate it according to his own vision. He wrote and presented his desired policies the same month, urging the Bolsheviks to withdraw their support from the Provisional Government, withdraw from the war, distribute land to the peasantry, and seize power for the Soviets, who would control the production of goods. These policies, since known as the "April Theses", were published in Pravda under the same title as the present pamphlet (The Tasks of the Proletariat in Our Revolution). Despite initially being rejected by a gathering of Social Democrats and then the Bolshevik committee, they were adopted by the party's seventh all-Russian conference in late April. The principles became very popular among the workers and soldiers of St Petersburg, broadening the Bolshevik Party's reach and support. Lenin subsequently developed and expanded the principles of the April Theses into a coherent party platform, which was printed in the present pamphlet in September, comprising effectively a manifesto of Leninism which guided the Bolsheviks as they overthrew the Provisional Government and secured their power. The pamphlet includes a postscript written by Lenin since the first printing of the April Theses, and is appended with the 1915 Zimmerwald Conference resolution calling for the end of the World War. - Wrappers detached; small tears to spine, slightly spotted. Only a handful of library copies traceable, none outside the US or the UK. Last seen at auction in 1972. Zalesky 3526. Lenin, Complete Works XXXI, 149-186. Lenin Collected Works 24, 55-92. 4to. XII, (3)-469, (3) pp. Original printed wrappers bound within somewhat later half calf over marbled boards with giltstamped spine-title. First edition of this early, albeit illegal collection of Lenin's works, containing some of the principal writings of Bolshevism. Includes the important preface by Lenin, advocating an organization of professional revolutionaries. - In 1907, the Zerno Book Publishers, directed by M. S. Kedrov, decided to bring out a three-volume collection of Lenin’s works under the general title "Twelve Years". The first volume, which is present here, contains seven important political publications: "The Economic Content of Narodism and the Criticism of it in Mr. Struve's Book", "The Tasks of the Russian Social-Democrats", "The Persecutors of the Zemstvo and the Hannibals of Liberalism", "What is To Be Done?", "One Step Forward, Two Steps Back", "The Zemstvo Campaign and Iskra's Plan", and "Two Tactics of Social-Democracy in the Democratic Revolution". The volume, which came off the press in November 1907 (the cover gives the date 1908), was confiscated soon after its appearance. The second volume was to appear in two parts: "The Agrarian Question: Part One" was published in January 1908 under the pseudonym "VI. Il’in". For the second part, Lenin wrote "The Agrarian Programme of Social-Democracy in the First Russian Revolution, 1905-1907". The galleys and manuscript of this work were confiscated by the tsarist security police, and were destroyed. However, a part of the edition was saved, and the book continued to circulate illegally. - Binding slightly rubbed; interior in excellent condition. OCLC 56677898.

Most noteworthy for a case entitled "Pardon Me, Boys" in which a draftee uses an simple method to delay being drafted. Given the ominous developments in the U.S., this method could be of vital importance for young Americans. Unpaginated. Book clean and unmarked with light wear. Average wear to dust jacket. Good luck! (FT) Hardcover, 8vo, 282 pages, 25 cm. In Hebrew. SUBJECT(S) : Schiper, Ignacy. Added title page: Yitzhak Schipper, evaluation and selected writings. Romanized record. "Bibliografyah shel kitve Dr. Yitshak Shiper" on pages 267-282. Other Titles: Yitzhak Schipper, evaluation and selected writings. Schiper (1884-1943) was a historian and public worker. Schiper was born in Tarnow, Galicia. From his youth he was a member of the Po'alei Zion movement, and from 1922 of the General Zionists, holding various public positions in the parties and acting as their emissary. During 192227 he was a deputy in the Polish Sejm. After the establishment of the Institute of Jewish Sciences in Warsaw in 1928, he lectured on the history of Jewish economy. Schiper died in a German concentration camp near Lublin. Although his academic education was essentially a legal one, Schiper took an interest in historical research throughout his life. Within the group of Jewish historians which emerged in Galicia in the early 20th century, Schiper distinguished himself in the history of economics and of popular culture. Whether this was due to his social outlook or to his limited Hebrew education, he thought that the study of the spiritual history of the nation and its leaders had been exhausted; "the Sabbath-Jew with his extra soul" was already well known, and there arose a need, he felt, to become acquainted with the secular aspect of the nation's life. Schiper's first work, in the sphere of Jewish economics, was his original research on the beginnings of capitalism among the Jews of the Western world, which was also translated into Russian and Yiddish. Schiper then turned his attention to research into Jewish economy in Poland, at first during the Middle Ages and then during the modern era also. His principal works in this sphere are Studya nad stosunkami gospodarczymi Zydow w Polsce podczas sredniowiecza, and Dzieje handlu zydowskiego na ziemiach polskich. Of his studies on the history of culture, two of his works are of note: Kultur-Geshikhte fun di Yidn in Poyln beysn Mitlalter, which deals with the way of life of the Jews, and Geshikhte fun der Yidisher Teater-Kunst un Drame: fun di Eltste Tsaytn bis 1750, which deals with theatrical art and drama. Schiper also occupied himself with other historical questions, such as Jewish autonomy in Poland, but he dealt mainly with Jewry's relationship to the external world, using primarily non-Jewish sources. A historian of great intuition and imagination, he promoted and enriched historical research on Polish Jewry, though he did not always trouble to establish his ideas on a firm historical footing (Halpern in EJ, 2007) . Hinge repair. Light wear to cover binding. Otherwise, very good condition. (Rab-40-5)
