Otherwise the text is clean free of markings with minor toning. Lacking glassine wrapper and slipcase I believe this was how it was issued. Unpaginated 15 preliminary leaves 60 numbered plates including 8 mounted color plates each opposite a descriptive page. <br/><br/>Experienced full-time bookseller since 1994. Five poems of Indian life by the Sioux poet White Eagle 1879-1933. White Eagle was born Shields Wright near Eufaula Oklahoma. He was deaf taught to read and write and eventually learned to speak though when he did speak it was with significant difficulty. At the age of fifteen he left the reservation and by 1909 was working as a cowboy on the range near Gillette Wyoming. At this time he also contributed to local newspapers including the Gillette News and the Cheyenne Tribune. He continued to live by the pen and his work appeared in the Saturday Evening Post and other national publications. White Eagle was also known as a great traveler having sojourned thousands of miles across the country selling his writings and generating publicity for Wyoming the Black Hills and the Custer Battlefield Highway. He died in March 1933 killed in an accident while riding a freight train at Pawhuska Oklahoma. n. p. paperback
