Boag of Newcastle</em> size approx. 14 1/4" x 6 3/4" and <em>"The Particulars of the Gibbet being stole away from Jarrow Slake Late on Friday Night or early on Saturday Morning September 1st 1832 by some Persons yet unknown" Printed by Douglas and Kent of Newcastle </em>size approx. 14 3/4" x 4 3/8". Affixed to the upper corners to thin cream card with brown thick board mounts. Good complete condition browned with evidence of previous horizontal folds. Previous auction lot details affixed to rear board.</p><p><em>Two rare original accounts of the hanging pitching and gibbeting of William Jobling a striking pitman who had been convicted as accomplice in the murder of Nicholas Fairles on the 11th June 1832. And of the subsequent disappearance of his body reputedly removed by Jobling's friends risking seven years transportation. A tightly bound copy. Former owner's ex-libris plate oval form leather with bright gilt stamping of owner and illustration of a fish William Simon Glazer banker 1907-1962 with offsetting to facing page ffep with additional small stain. Otherwise the text is clean free of markings with minor toning. Lacking glassine wrapper and slipcase I believe this was how it was issued. Unpaginated 15 preliminary leaves 60 numbered plates including 8 mounted color plates each opposite a descriptive page. <br/><br/>Experienced full-time bookseller since 1994. 1918015759Gillette Wyoming: n. p. 1918. Soft cover. Very Good. Staple-bound booklet. Lightly handled. Clean and unmarked. Two illustrations from photographs. 8 pages. 5.5 x 3.5 inches. Five poems of Indian life by the Sioux poet White Eagle 1879-1933. White Eagle was born Shields Wright near Eufaula Oklahoma. He was deaf taught to read and write and eventually learned to speak though when he did speak it was with significant difficulty. At the age of fifteen he left the reservation and by 1909 was working as a cowboy on the range near Gillette Wyoming. At this time he also contributed to local newspapers including the Gillette News and the Cheyenne Tribune. He continued to live by the pen and his work appeared in the Saturday Evening Post and other national publications. White Eagle was also known as a great traveler having sojourned thousands of miles across the country selling his writings and generating publicity for Wyoming the Black Hills and the Custer Battlefield Highway. He died in March 1933 killed in an accident while riding a freight train at Pawhuska Oklahoma. n. p. paperback
