Author is the pioneer who did more than anyone else to establish the principles, practices and ethics of public relations... Mr. Bernays describes the many national movements, social beliefs, trends, fashions and fads that have resulted from his carefully planned public relations activities. He reveals the secrets, the techniques, the causes and consequences of his glamorous, crucial, yet little understood profession... 191 pages. Index. "I lived with members of the Weather Underground for many months. A good many of these people I grew to like, but their fixation with violence to bring about political change is what forced me to view them as a threat to myself and others. These are a highly dedicated group of people who are willing to give their lives if necessary to fulfill their objectives." - Foreword. Somewhat above-average wear. Usual library markings. Binding intact. Light pencil markings on several pages. A sound reading copy. Decades after publication interest in this book was renewed as Americans discovered that Barry Soetoro [aka Barack Obama] had strong ties to Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn, both of whom were leaders of the Weather Underground. He was ejected (50) from the senate ostensibly for adultery, but more probably because of his partisanship for Caesar. He served with Caesar after his praetorship and was his governor in Numidia; he was subsequently accused of misusing his governorship for personal gain. His princi pal works are the Bellum Catilinae, on the conspiracy of Catiline and his account of the Jugurthine War, Bellum Jugurthinum. His history of Rome is extant only in fragments; it probably covered the pe riod 78 B.C. to 67 B.C. As a historian Sallust was important as one of the first to write historical monographs dealing with sharply limited events and periods. Although his style is consciously archa ic, it is distinguished by its terseness and directness. His character sketches are particularly impressive and vivid, and his work has found as many imitators as critics - Columbia Encyclopedia. pp. (4), 318. Uncut and unopened. 4to. [310 x 245 mm.] Deckle edged. Foxed. Later half-morocco leather binding. John Baskerville (1706-1775) was the greatest printer of his era. Born in Wolverley, Hereford - Worcester, England, he became a writing master in Birmingham. He also carried on a successful japanning (varnishing) business there. In about 1750 he began to make experiments in letter founding, and produced the wonderful series of types now named after him. His first book, the Virgil of 1757, was also the first to be printed upon wove paper (manufactured by a process that he invented). In 1758 he be came printer to Cambridge University. All of his books bear show fine craftsmanship and a refined sense of design. In the last few years before his death, Baskerville published a few Latin classics in quarto and duodecimo. "All these bear the marks of unabated genius even in his declining days: and suffice, had he printed nothing else, to distinguish him as the first typographer of his time" - T. B. Reed, in 'Old English Letter Foundries'. Obviously, unopened Baskerville quartos are uncommon and significant. Gaskell 51; Brunet V:87; Grasse VI:242. EXTREMELY RARE. W113.

Fine contemporary full French olive morocco gilt binding. Silk doublures. Manuscript Crozat (1813) ownership. Leather gold Ex Libris of Dudley C. Majoribanks. Dudley Coutts Marjoribanks, 1st Baron Tweedmouth, also known as the Laird of Guisachan and Glenaffric (18201894), was a Scottish businessman and a Liberal politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1853 until 1880, when he was elevated to the peerage as Baron Tweedmouth. Beautifully printed and handsomely bound edition that appears to be essentially the sheets of the 1744 edition with a new title page. Includes a life of Sallust by Etienne Andre Philippe de Pretot (d. 1787). A brief history of the Barbou Classics is given by Schweiger (II 1269). In 1742 Lenglet de Fresnoy persuaded Coustelier to start a series which was meant to be a French rival to the Elzeviers - even surpassing them in terms of scholarship and typography. Though this effort soon exhausted itself, it was revived by Jean Joseph Barbou in 1753. Seven of these attractive little books appeared in 1753-1755, and though there were more issued in the next decade, there was not enough market interest to support a sustained publishing program. They still stand as a monument to French scholarship and typography. Brunet V:87. Very scarce. **PRICE JUST REDUCED! SMALL BOX 3

Considering that Esso sounds eerily like an acronym for the Rockefeller's Standard Oil (S.O.) readers of this work will also surely be interested in the early writings of Ida Tarbell and her revelations about the methods of that company and its founder, J.D. Rockefeller. Has anything changed? Book

But this Jeffersonian Democrat possesses a rarer integrity which we call intellectual integrity. Appointed to the Banking and Currency Committee in 1904, the supreme opportunity soon came to him to be the chief architect of the Federal Reserve System. He became the great post-WWI Secretary of the treasury and won Woodrow Wilson's intimacy, trust and praise. pp.x, 235. "As a research scientist and product design engineer [the author] has been directly involved with programs and projects for the design and development of portable cell phones, radio frequency mobile radios, microwave telecommunications systems, video display systems, and biological effects research." - vi. "Provides a broad view of the scientific landscape that clearly advises us that there is danger here. Provides a historical accounting of the research that is available, has been available for forty years or more, and has been neglected or buried by an industry that will place its absolute need to sell products above the health and well-being of its own customers. The practice of producing such products can only be viewed as predatory. Offers a commentary on a litany of past research studies, hundreds of research studies from the 1950s through the mid-1990s. These older studies are alarming in their findings of radiation exposure, DNA damage, chromosome damage, tissue damage, radiation absorption, cataract formation, tumor formation, memory loss, motor skills degradation, and more." - ix-x.
