Good copy. This print from a highly symbolic painting done in a modern impressionist style by 张长清 Zhang Changqing would have been a wall poster for use in upper primary classrooms with the aim of encouraging children to strive to be heroes and to achieve. Behind the children is an image of the 1986 Laoshan Hero Commemorative Medal 八一金星配三色绶带 . The girl is holding a text or notebook with the words Laoshan on the cover symbolising sacrifice bravery and usually that the bearer had somehow contributed to the Laoshan war effort but in this case possibly a textbook about Laoshan and the need to learn from the heroes of that military campaign. . 重庆出版社. 19415699Washington DC 1941. Very good plus. 51pp. Original self wrappers. Soft horizontal crease. A slip-bill printing of the Gillette Propaganda Exposure Bill of 1941 proposed by Iowa Senator Guy Gillette. The bill sought "to protect the integrity of the democratic process by requiring disclosure of persons writing publishing and circulating scurrilous literature in connection with political campaigns; to deny the use of the mails to such literature and to prohibit its importation into the United States in default of such disclosure; and for other purposes." The text of the bill opens by attempting to outlaw "all published matter" which causes "public hatred or contempt" for any American citizen "because of race religion descent or nationality" during national elections and those in Hawaii Alaska and Puerto Rico. The bill also sought to establish an Office of Minority Relations to enforce the law and provided penalties to anyone breaking the new law. The final line of the bill states that it should be referred to as the "Propaganda Exposure Act 1941." Calling for honesty fairness and equal treatment in American political elections It'll never pass and it didn't. unknown

1944888911944. JAPANESE PROPAGANDA Asahi Shimbunsha. SAKURA. Volume 6 #2 #31 overall. Large wrappered staple bound illustrated photomagazine in the tradition of FRONT and HOMELIFE. This number published in February of 1944 celebrated the plans for a cross continental railway to cross Eurasia from Tokyo to Berlin complete with an undersea tunnel from Japan to the mainland. SAKURA magazine was written in English Chinese and French. The whole world seems to lay at the feet of the Axis in this rosy scenario as sketched throughout the magazine. East Asia under the guidance of Imperial Japan is on the march to build a new world. Yet by February of 1944 the Red Army was in Poland and the Ukraine Sevastopol was cut off times were bleak for the 1000 year Reich indeed. Closer to home the Allies had "turned the corner" in the Western Pacific had isolated the large Japanese force at Rabaul and were headed north towards the homeland. At some point during the war reality and appearance began a rapid divergence and as the end approached it became all pure delusion. All of which does not obviate what an amazing visual feast SAKURA is from the covers to the ads a consistent message of normalcy progress and steadfast purpose in a great task. unknown
216197Japan. Early 20th Century. Colour woodblock fan print 24.5 x 25cm very good copy. This fan-shaped colour woodblock print features a 1894 battle scene from the Sino-Japanese War in Pyongyang. Among the soldiers Harada Jukichi became well-known as one of the bravest returning home to hero's welcome after the war. However he was overwhelmed with numerous visitors which ended up forcing him into serious debt. In order to pay off this debt he travelled throughout Japan re-enacting the fighting and victorious scenes on stage. This print depicts courageous Harada single handed taking on his Chinese enemies who are falling or fleeing. . unknown
1940216176Japan. 1940. Two coloured fan prints 27.5 x 26cm. Occasional light marks a little light browning. Very good. These two propaganda prints were created to make children's paper fans each carrying patriotic messages and delicately rendered in bright colors.<br><br>The first sheet features a young boy on a white horse blowing a bugle. A Japanese warplane is seen flying in the sky with the rising sun in the background. The caption urges people not to disclose any military secrets even to close friends. Additionally the lyrics of the 1940 nationalistic song "Kokumin Shingunka" are printed on the sheet. <br><br>The second sheet depicts an idyllic scene of children playing by a lake catching dragonflies and fish. The boys are portrayed in more active roles while the girls hold a bucket or a cage. The message on this sheet reads "East Asia's Future is Bright and Children are Thriving." A warplane can be seen in the sky in the far distance subtly tying the peaceful scene to the wartime context. . unknown

1951222708North Korea or China.: Korean People's Army or People's Volunteer Army. Circa1951-1953. Two double-sided leaflets. Darling I Will Dream: 21 x 15cm. Truth Will Out: 19 x 13cm. Both leaflets somewhat foxed and trifle soiled chipped with a little loss though still in good condition for what were most likely once-active leaflets in a warzone. Two propaganda leaflets intended to be dropped over UN Forces in Korea attempting to convince them to surrender and cooperate with the KPA and PVA. Each leaflet appeals to different modes of persuasion with one relying on an emotional appeal and the other from the perspective of logic. <br> <br>'Darling I Will Dream That You Are Coming Back to Me This Christmas' is a typical example in the long-winded history of so-called 'counterfeit Christmas cards' that purport to show wistful appeals from sweethearts abandoned back home. The addition of the details of a supposedly deceased GI are intended to add credence to the letter's authenticity though a quick search reveals the soldier in question returned home after his successful tour of duty in Korea married his sweetheart and led out the rest of his life very well. <br> <br>'Truth Will Out' is a very early example of the conflicting narratives that permeate the North Korean historiography of the Armistice Agreement - most retellings largely hinging on the portrayal of the American leadership as a gaggle of mercurial incompetents. <br> <br>This particular account details a ceasefire negotiation in which General William K. Harrison abruptly walked out before waiting to hear General Nam Il's "very reasonable proposal". The ultimate purpose of this tale is to encourage UN Forces to passively revolt in protest. While the event did indeed take place in June 1952 in reality Harrison was not empowered to hear counter-proposals and called a recess before Nam Il had the opportunity to launch into what would have undoubtedly been an over-rehearsed propagandistic diatribe. D. Bruce Lockerbie the author of Harrison's biography theorised that the ultimate goal of the American delegation's walk-out was to not only deny the North Koreans a platform but also shock them which it evidently did. .
