"Carl Ewald Grunsky April 4 1855 June 9 1934 was a geologist and civil engineer throughout the mid 19th century. In 1896 Grunsky implemented the innovative gravity-based sewer channeling waste rapidly from North Point to Golden Gate or towards Oakland. He served as member on the Board of Trustees from 1898 to 1904 at the California Academy of Sciences where in 1911 he was promoted to secretary and was elected President in 1912. Before entering the field of geology and civil engineering Carl Grunsky originally pursued a career in medicine. After entering a Realschule and Polytechnikum in Stuttgart Germany he switched to civil engineering. After starting his first career as a city engineer of San Francisco from 19001904 and gaining recognition he consequently became a member of the Panama Canal Commission from 1904-1905. On "The World Almanac" letterhead citing him as editor Hansen tells the Round Table officer "I did not use the three dinner tickets last night. Can you give me a credit on future meals My guests mistook the hour and we had to get dinner outside." Signed boldly in full in black ink. Hansen 1884-1977 was the long-time and widely-syndicated "Chicago Daily News" literary editor 1915-45 whose views and reviews on bookish topics became well known and highly regarded; he was also a noted radio book-talk personality and guest panelist; he edited many volumes including many of the WPA state guides.
