Two volumes; 16mo; pp; I; iv ii 224; II; vi 198 ii index corrections; illustrated a double page map of the county a folding plan of the town an engraved title in each volume and fifty-nine engraved views in volume one and thirty-eight engraved views in volume two; the many engravings are clean and bright and many are from John Sell Cotman drawings; bound in full decorated embossed green morocco with marbled endpapers and edges red spine labels lettered in gilt; Images chosen to illustrate this piece are the boards showing the leather and the paste-down with bookseller's tag;. In each volume is an 19th century bookseller's tag affixed to the bottom edge inside the upper board from "H. Sotheran & Co. Booksellers 140 Strand London". There is an inscription on a preliminary leaf stating the following; "Given to me in September 1919 at Hemstead Hall by Mrs. Barker as a memorial of her Father and my friend Sir R. H. Ingles Palgrave who died in January of that year in his 92' year. T. G. Bonney". He produced the three volume Palgrave's Dictionary of Political Economy 1894 1896 and 1899 and also edited the collected historical works of his father Sir Francis Palgrave. Elected a partner in the 1920's he was an important figure in its merger into the CIT Financial Corporation in 1932. From then until 1951 he served as president of Iselin then a separate division of CIT. Next he became the founder-president of Iselin-Jefferson Financial Corporation which he built into another sizable.operation. It was sold to the Manufacturers Hanover Trust Company in 1971.
