First and only edition of this scarce report into corruption and price fixing within the 1730s Newcastle coal industry. A precursor to the later limitation coal vend a cartel of North East coal owners who artificially inflated the price of coal. 49770Albumen print photograph carte de visite format 63 x 103 mm; verso with a fully contemporary inscription in ink: 'Mount gambier Hospitle'; the print has lost some contrast but is otherwise in good condition as is the mount. This carte was sourced with others taken by travelling photographer J. T. Ginnings. However the State Library of South Australia holds a very similar carte de visite view of the Mount Gambier Hospital that was taken about the same time by Joseph H. Nixon: 'Photograph of the first Mount Gambier Hospital which was established in 1869 and demolished in 1971. The building was designed by Government Architect Robert George Thomas between 1867-69. The hospital was built of stone in the Italian gothic style featuring towers and cloistered verandahs. The two storey stately building had two wings and was typical of the Victorian era with decorative dressings around the doors windows cupolas large ornate chimneys and even featured a widow's walk. The foundation stone was laid in February 1867 by James C Lyon' SLSA B11414. unknown

INSCRIBED and SIGNED by both Toledano and Nixon to editor William Randolph Hearst Jr. son of William Randolph Hearst the newspaper despot and subject of Orson Welles's film CITIZEN KANE. It was Hearst who was largely responsible for the Hollywood image of the hard-drinking cynical reporter always in pursuit of breaking news. The younger Hearst shared the 1956 Pulitzer Prize for international reporting for his interviews with the new Russian leadership and in 1959 he would cover Nixon's visit to the Soviet Union. Nixon's inscription reads: "To Bill Hearst/who is always a/friend in good or/bad weather -- from/Dick Nixon." Over the course of time Nixon's attitude toward journalists became much less friendly. Edward Nixon 1930 - 2019 was the youngest brother of President Richard Nixon. He served on the inaugural committee during the 1973 election and is mentioned in this book. As the Watergate scandal evolved it was revealed that Charles "Bebe" Rebozo gave campaign contributions to Rose Mary Woods Donald Nixon and Edward Nixon. Frame measures 17.5 x 23.25 inches; exposed poster measures 16 x 22 inches. Age-toning with wear commensurate with age including two closed tears. An early campaign poster for Richard Nixon 1913-1994 likely printed for his 1950 Senate campaign with the staggering slogan "A Vote for Honest Government." As it turned out Nixon's political career was marked by a level of dishonesty unmatched in recent history until the Trump administration assumed power. <p>Regarding dishonorable political practices the only reference we've seen to this poster was in a photo accompanying a New York Times article on convicted felon Roger Stone: A framed copy hangs in his residence.</p> .
