From the length and breadth of the Empire we have received the most flattering testimonials." The present volume contains all first 34 issues and a Supplement. Each issue is stamped at bottom with the legendary red Tax Stamp. The complete series of both of Dietmar Kirves' art / media analyses with additional related manuscript material.'Information from artists and artists’ groups in whose working fields a consciousness-building concept is discernible.' It was with this short sentence that publisher / artist Dietmar Kirves – also known to many as a German member of the 'NO!art' movement – characterised his two publication series 'art information' and 'media news'. With the two series Kirves' aim was to create a platform for making information on contemporary art accessible to a broad public inexpensively and thus to encourage a creative dialog with the public. In the period from 1970 to 1973 Kirves asked artists belonging to various art movements – generally of an anti-art-establishment nature – to submit momentary takes on their working processes as well as examples of their work. In the 'art information' series editions by Joseph Beuys Michael Buthe Terry Fox Jochen Gerz Joel Glassman Anatol Herzfeld Jean Le Gac and Sarkis Zabunyan appeared. Hansjürgen Bulkowski Christine Franz Florian Schneider-Esleben Timm Schröder Landfried Schröpfer and Fritz Schwegler contributed to the series 'media news' 1970 – 1971.Whereas 'art information' concentrated primarily on the presentation of artists’ and artist groups’ work results and projects 'media news' brought up a wide range of socially relevant topics relating to such areas as communication motivation and psychology up for discussion. In editions of up to two hundred copies the publications were circulated by Kirves's Düsseldorf based publishing house 'mediacontact' in Germany France and America. The complete set of issues runs as follows:Art information :1. 1923213441923. Birth Control News newspaper edited by Marie Stopes and associates in 1923 advanced public discussion of contraception family planning and reproductive reform in Britain during the early twentieth century birth control movement. The publication served as the official organ of the Society for Constructive Birth Control and Racial Progress the organization founded by Stopes to promote access to contraceptive knowledge and to publicize the work of birth control clinics in the United Kingdom. Appearing during a period when contraception remained controversial and often restricted in public discourse the newspaper circulated reports on medical developments clinic activity and legislative debates concerning reproductive health. Stopes's activism contributed to the wider public visibility of contraception and women's reproductive autonomy while also reflecting the intellectual climate of the period in which birth control advocacy was frequently intertwined with contemporary discussions of population control and eugenics.

Stopes Marie et al. Birth Control News the Official Newspaper of the Society for Constructive Birth Control and Racial Progress. London: Society for Constructive Birth Control and Racial Progress 1923. Archive of four issues including January 1923 March 1923 April 1923 and May 1923. The issues report on the activities of birth control organizations and clinics as well as policy debates surrounding reproductive health. One headline titled "New Minister of Health" critiques government policies affecting access to birth control demonstrating the movement's engagement with national political developments. Another article titled "Edinburgh Enthusiastic" reports on a major meeting in Scotland and reflects growing public interest in birth control advocacy beyond London. The newspapers also contain advertisements for contraceptive services and clinics illustrating the practical mechanisms through which birth control advocates attempted to disseminate information and medical guidance to the public.

Birth Control News appeared during a formative period in the international birth control movement when activists sought to expand access to contraceptive information and establish clinics dedicated to reproductive health. The Society for Constructive Birth Control and Racial Progress combined advocacy for family planning with ideas drawn from early twentieth century eugenic discourse an intellectual framework that influenced many social reform movements of the period and remains the subject of ongoing historical examination. The publication therefore documents both the emergence of organized contraception advocacy in Britain and the ideological debates that accompanied it. Four issues each approximately 4 to 6 pages printed on newsprint and measuring roughly 11 x 16 inches. Light browning and minor creasing typical of newsprint; overall very good condition. Surviving issues provide a valuable documentary record of early birth control advocacy and its contested intellectual context in interwar Britain. unknown

196116032London: Spring Books 1961. First edition first printing. Published by Spring Books in London 1961. Without the dust wrapper. This is a near fine copy. The boards are without notable wear aside from slight bumping and separation at the top and tail of the spine with very slight crumpling at the corners. The text blocks are free from foxing. The strength of this item lies in the inscriptions to half title verso. The inscription in royal blue ink reads: "For Bernard with affectionate appreciation of his valuable work for Peace News from: Vera Brittain Hugh Brock Geoffrey Tattersall Geoffrey Carnall J. Allen Skinner Arthur E. Fowler Ivan Geffen Harvey Christie Derek Sadler Alan Lovell. Each of the signees held various positions at Peace News the Pacifist Magazine first published in 1936 to serve the peace movement in the United Kingdom. Though affiliated with Peace News each signee also had their own background careers notably the writer Vera Brittain theatre pioneer Alan Lovell and trade unionist J. Allen Skinner. It is most likely inscribed to Bernard Boothroyd the fourth editor of Peace News. Overall this is a fine copy albeit without the dust wrapper of a fine set of inscriptions. Spring Books hardcover

Folio. Contemporary brown vinyl scrapbook string tied. Minor overall wear some old tape stains to most items some items apparently re-mounted likely by a later friend or family member. Overall very good. A wonderful scrapbook celebrating the professional career of Evelyn Lorraine Thompson 1948-2005 on-air reporter and news anchor for KOOL-CBS Radio and Television and KTVK-TV in Phoenix Arizona in the 1970s. Thompson worked for KOOL straight out of college after graduating from Boston University in 1972. She was hired as a writer-producer for morning newscasts then worked as a full-time news reporter. Unusual for the era Thompson also served as KOOL's weekend sports reporter. She later moved to KTVK-TV also in Phoenix where she worked as a news anchor. We could find no other information about Thompson following about 1980 except for her brief obituary in the Arizona Republic.

The present scrapbook provides a valuable snapshot of Thompson's life and early career through a range of original photographs showing her as a child but with the majority showing her during her working years at KOOL and KTVK. The album also includes numerous letters to Thompson from a variety of correspondents thanking her for stories congratulating her for her positions at the news news releases and other documents announcing her personal appearances newspaper clippings when Thompson appeared in the paper either for a story or as the subject of a story and so forth. The scrapbook even includes the prompt copy of a speech given by her before sorority students at Northern Arizona University. For a deeper look at her life as a reporter or anchor a number of additional prompt copies of some of Thompson's stories are gathered in a manila envelope laid into the scrapbook. The scrapbook also includes award certificates most notably her award as one of the "Outstanding Young Women of America" in 1973. Altogether a unique assemblage of original materials documenting a trailblazing Black reporter and news anchor in the contemporary American West. unknown
