With minor autograph corrections. <br /> <br /> A charming piece of American social history evidently written by a schoolboy to his mother pleading for permission to take dancing lessons: "for it is very unpleasant for! to see people all knowing how to dance." Cousin Abbey had come to town to attend dancing school for half a quarter and the young boy writes: "if I begin the first of February I shall have a quarter but if you thing! a quarter will cost to! much permit me to go half a quarter. Sister Francis says I better go now this winter and then subscribe next winter to the cotillion parties wich! will be but a dollar and a half. I wish you would let me know so that I can get a pair of shoes for it. I want to go very much."<br /> <br /> Somewhat worn and browned; creased at folds with minor loss to blank areas; small portion of upper edge of second leaf corresponding to seal lacking. unknown

Octavo navy blue cloth lettered in gilt on the spine and in red on the upper board pp. 472 1 publisher's advertisement for the "Now Ready Second edition" of The Coming of Love. With a 3pp. A.L.s. on The Pines letterhead dated 14 XII 06 asking an acquaintance to lunch or dinner in hopes of obtaining an "opinion upon a point connected with abeyance in an old barony. It is connected with a novel that I am now working on." The letter is in a secretarial hand but is signed in full by Watts-Dunton. Aylwin the author's best known work is a roman a clef with "a number of disguised Pre-Raphaelite characters including Rossetti". Inner hinges are cracked last 25 pages are shaken but holding small Christmas label on the title page bookplate Library of Thos. D. Murray on front pastedown small bookseller's label on rear pastedown corners are lightly bumped lower corners a little worn base of spine has small tears head of spine is a little rubbed overall covers are clean and bright.
