As finance minister in the reign of Henri IV Sully introduced many reforms and removed many abuses of tax-collecting managing to save between 1600 and 1610 an average of a million livres a year. Sully also served as grand commissioner of public works superintendent of fortifications and grand master of artillery in addition to being appointed governor of Mantes and of Jargau. The binding is in poor condition with heavy wear to the boards spine partially gone exposing cords hinges tender but intact contents remarkably clean with only the usual age-toning. Sully 1560-1641 was a Huguenot soldier financier and statesman who became Henry IV's chief minister and under his often autocratic guidance restored stability and solvency to France's affairs. He left a collections of memoirs written in the second person first published in 1634 which are valuable as a history of the times. Our offering is the second volume of these memoirs commencing with chapter 71 and concluding with a comprehensive Table of Contents. Colophon states that this edition was printed at Rouen France on September 28 1663 to be sold in Paris by Thomas Jolly. Thomas Jolly unknown
