Since 2007 he has been Chair of the graduate program in Art Writing formerly Art Criticism & Writing at the School of Visual Arts in New York City.1 He also taught at the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College from 2001-2005 and since 2002 he has continued to teach in the Milton Avery Graduate School of the Arts at Bard. But once upon a time at age 21 he traveled around the world on a floating university collecting childrens art in Japan China Indonesia India and Africa and studying the radical pedagogy of Paulo Freire. First edition celebrating the first meeting of foreign ministers from 55 African and Arab countries along with representatives of multiple independence movements and two banking institutions. This was the forerunner to the first conference of heads of state held from 7 to 9 March 1977 where political and economic co-operation between the OAU and the League of Arab States would be formalized. This work records the addresses given by various ministers throughout the conference contributions from representatives of the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa and the African Development Bank and a full list of delegates. As noted by Leopold Sedar Senghor president of the Republic of Senegal in his opening speech "our concern is not so much actually to solve problems as to state them define institutional structures and discover a method of solving our problems" p. 14. With this groundwork the conference of heads of state resulted in an agreement that condemned imperialism colonialism Zionism and apartheid secured $1.45 billion of funding from Arab states to African countries and declared guerilla operations in Palestine and South Africa as joint Afro-Arab causes.
