A somewhat scarce promotional brochure published in 1905 by the Anaheim Chamber of Commerce extolling the many virtues of the City. Opening with a short "History of Anaheim" the brochure quickly moves into the many advantages the city offers: the walnut and fruit groves the stately homes the climate the schools etc. <br /> <br /> Profusely illustrated with five full-page one page with two plates and twenty-one in-text half-tone illustrations and one map this slim volume provides a fascinating glimpse into the Anaheim of 115 years ago before "progress" and Walt Disney changed it forever. <br /> <br /> As of this writing we see only a single copy online and our search of OCLC locates only four copies; not listed in Rocq.<br /> <br /> ___DESCRIPTION: Staple-bound with brown heavy paper wraps embossed black lettering on the front wrap title page with a styled "T" inset and with all lettering surrounded by a thin ruled border the volume opens with one of the full-page halftones captioned "Looking East on Center Street" showing horse-drawn carriages and an unpaved street a total of twenty-seven different plates and one "Map of Orange County California Made By S.H. Founded in 1831 it closed its doors on Christmas Eve in 1935. At one time it was the largest center of production of cotton denim fabrics in America. Information written in French on the factory and its employees various parks Lake Massabesic Mount Uncanoonuc reasons that one should stay in Manchester advantages for business etc. Profusely illustrated with pictures of important buildings churches streets schools monuments parks scenery agricultural scenes numerous pictures of the interior of the factory etc. At top of title pages is written in blue ink "Property of Walter S. Wheeler 790 Amherst St. Manchester N.H. U.S.A." Title page lightly soiled and interior spine is neatly reinforced with archival tape along with light wear to the extremities of the covers. Very good. 1890234021890. Very good overall. Card printed in English and Chinese with the name of the establishment in an elaborate type font. The company had locations in Chinkiang Nanking Wuhu and Kiukiang. It records "Bum Boat General Store Keepers Butcher & Bakers Commission Agents & c and Coal Merchants". <br /> <br /> This card hails from the period following the Treaty of Tianjin which ended the Second Opium War opened more Chinese ports to foreign trade and allowed foreign legations in the Chinese capital. "Bum boats" were small water taxis and boats used for short trips.<br /> <br /> Chinese text in 2 vertical columns to left and right of English text. Removed from an album with black paper adhering to verso. 4 1/4 x 2 3/4" unknown
