Bound in original green coated paper wrappers printed in gold ink; a crease at the lower corner of the front wrappers a few chips and nicks but otherwise an excellent survival in very good condition. Unrecorded trade catalogue beautifully illustrated to highlight the simplicity of design and the quality of the wood used in the construction of all types of sleighs and carriages. Very little is know of R. M. Bingham & Co. and the only recorded reference is to an advertisement for the company in an undated catalogue for Palm & Fletcher of New York City who sold carriage ornaments and artistic supplies. The lithographer was Punderson & Crisand a New Haven printer who did most of his work between 1870 and 1879. The company is known for its views of New Haven images of the harbor the Yale College year book of 1870 and a series of maps of New Haven and the surrounding counties. unknown books

Bound in an album of contemporary half calf and marbled paper boards with red leather label on upper cover stamped in gilt "Dickinson's Embossed Cards" calf shows much deterioration and corrosion although the sewing is still intact 28 specimen cards have been removed and are no longer present some minor soiling and foxing but generally vey clean and sound internally custom morocco backed folding box. With a very interesting presentation note from a previous Philadelphia owner Alfred Darrach dated 1928 affixed to the front pastedown identifying the original owner his grandfather as Christian Gobrecht 1785-1844 artist engraver embosser inventor engraver to the U.S. Mint and from 1840-1844 the 4th United States Engraver of the Mint where he was responsible for the creation of several new models and designs including the famous Seated Liberty design which appeared on a variety of American coins from 1836 through 1890. <br/>Gobrecht designed many notable medals coins and dies during his career but he also "invented a speaking doll and later a camera lucida. He also produced engravings for calico printers and dies for bookbinders. He engraved the brass dies for embossing the Morocco covers of the Boston Token from 1831 - 1836 as well as the eagle cover of the Philadelphia Token. Among the medals he engraved were the Charles Willson Peale medal the Franklin Institute medal etc ." - DAB.<br/>A remarkable specimen album in and of itself all the more so for having belonged to one of America's most important engravers. We cannot say for sure but it is entirely likely that if Gobrecht himself did not design many of the dies for this embosser he may have used the album for his own work and possibly removed the cards which are no longer present. Somewhat scarce brush catalogue from the 1870s. Whiting started making brushes in the 1850s and by 1868 he had a stand-alone brush business that included other family members. The company expanded a great deal and was considered one of the best brush makers by the 1890s. By the time of John Whiting's death in 1892 it was probably the largest manufacturer in the United States. This attractive little catalogue includes an engraving of the Whiting factory and images of the brushes they made. A complete price list is included. </p> books

Issued together with a trade catalogue for the soda water supply firm of John Matthews of New York an important manufacturer of bottling equipment soda fountains and carbonation apparatus. The fountains get progressively larger and more elaborate and with wonderful names: "The Citadel" "The Horicon" "The Adriatic" "The Fire-Eater" "The Nepenthe" and "The Snow Queen". There I also an outdoor soda fountain "The Street Spa". Also included are the auxiliary equipment of the carbonated water industry like siphon boxes for home delivery of soda water. The historical work and the trade catalogue were issued in celebration of the firm's 50th Anniversary. Some pencil scribbles to a few pages. Text block shaken; free front endpaper lacking. In publisher's brown and gilt-decorated green cloth corners rubbed and extremities a bit worn. Better than good. With the ownership signature of "Leopold F. Schmidt Deer Lodge Montana" and a more recent "Olympia Brewing Company". Very scarce. A trade catalogue for a simple but effective piece of dairy equipment used to cool the milk and separate cream usually as part of the butter making process. The milk pans themselves are illustrated on the rear wrapper panel. A bit of edge wear to a few leaves. In printed pale salmon wrapper edge chipped and lightly soiled. Scarce. An extensively illustrated trade catalogue of heating furnaces and cooking ranges. Before the 1830s gravity hot-air furnaces were produced according to the specifications of individual buildings. The first mass-market manufacturer in the United States was Richardson & Boynton established in 1837 and in business for more than a century thereafter. The company survived the competitive surge in home heating manufacturers in the decades after the Civil War Fuller & Warren of Troy for instance also advertised as "the oldest house in the trade" introducing innovations in fuel source efficiency flue design cleaning access and model size - to say nothing of aesthetic appeal - at a surprising rate. The foundries and shop buildings occupied a double block in Red Hook Brooklyn; corporate offices 232-234-236 Water Street were across the Brooklyn Bridge in Manhattan. By the 1890s Richardson & Boynton were advertising themselves as manufacturers of multiple designs of furnaces fireplace heaters laundry water heaters cooking ranges stoves and kitchen appurtenances such as kettles urns pastry ovens and steam tables. Owing ostensibly to climbing tunnage and wharfage costs the entire operation decamped to Dover New Jersey in February 1896. Elaborate illustrations with equally elaborate cutaways; specification charts. A bit of chipping to head and foot of wrapper at spine otherwise very good in two-toned brown wrappers with gilt decoration. Pages clean and bright. Scarce. Illustrated with two full-page images interior scenes of a "wholesale liquor store" and of a "retail grocery" each showing the barrel trucks in use.
