We note that laborers were paid under $1.25 per day; teamsters $1.33 per day; and the Engineer $2.00 per day. Brick and stone masons and cutters could earn as much as $2.50 per day. Documents such as this deserve more study by economic and social historians. GEOLOGY 2
64 p. + Inserts, including: a typed letter from WSS Treasurer, Geo. W. du Pont to Raymond C. Lauer (1888-1973), 9/14/1921; and a self mailer promotional stock order form. Thin 12 mo. 200 mm. Flexible faux leather binding. Signed by Du Pont. This is essentially a promotion for a stock purchase / investment plan. Aside from pushing the firm itself, certain companies are especially touted: The Texas Company (Texaco); White Motors (Cars and Trucks); Philadelphia Company (Gas & Electric); Southern Pacific (Railroad); Stewart-Warner (Speedometers). They also push: General Motors; Lee Tires; Middle State Oil; Pennsylvania Railroad; and Pond Creek Coal. Surely this portfolio made money (at least up until the crash of 1929). A cool artifact of the pre-crash investment era. ECON 1 / 3
