Accusé par son adversaire de défendre à la Chambre des intérêts privés, il rappelle les conditions dans lesquelles la compagnie a été acquise et défend un bilan qui respecte le cahier des charges signé avec l'Etat. Pour ce qui concerne la marine marchande, il s'oppose au droit de tonnage.
