The broadside folded inside is a list of first-year purchasers of the “1665 Barrel Truck†and is torn at the edges. The handbill itself is fine clean and bright. Unrecorded. Date from page of medals received. Stated "Fourth Edition". There were at least three distinctly different works with this title issued by the corporate author: 1890 72 pages with the Lalance and Grosjean Manufacturing Co name; 1891 32 pages an almanac not a trade catalogue; and this one undated ~136 pages a trade catalogue. Promotional combined trade catalogue and cookbook for Agate Iron Ware Manufacturing Company manufacturers of kitchen ware. Illustrated descriptions of the wares typically two to a page face recipes. The recipes are decidedly Anglo-French not American and they lean towards more elegant fare. Illustrations include the Agate Iron Ware manufacturing plant on front wrapper verso an assortment of medals and awards and an image of a homemaker sitting in her kitchen surrounded by Agate Ware while consulting this cookbook. The front panel bears the printed promotional statement "Compliments of F. A. Walker & Co. Cornhill". In original chromolithograph wrappers decorated in a Japonisme-style. Small stain along bottom edge of text block bit of bumping to the corners. Wrappers worn at corners and with some wear to the bottom of the spine panel. Overall near very good. 18964969New York: Bartlett & Company The Orr Press 1896. Octavo 20.5 x 14 cm. 97 pages. Date derived from Water Street address on title page. An extensively illustrated trade catalogue of heating furnaces and cooking ranges. Before the 1830s gravity hot-air furnaces were produced according to the specifications of individual buildings. The first mass-market manufacturer in the United States was Richardson & Boynton established in 1837 and in business for more than a century thereafter. The company survived the competitive surge in home heating manufacturers in the decades after the Civil War Fuller & Warren of Troy for instance also advertised as "the oldest house in the trade" introducing innovations in fuel source efficiency flue design cleaning access and model size – to say nothing of aesthetic appeal – at a surprising rate. The foundries and shop buildings occupied a double block in Red Hook Brooklyn; corporate offices 232-234-236 Water Street were across the Brooklyn Bridge in Manhattan. By the 1890s Richardson & Boynton were advertising themselves as manufacturers of multiple designs of furnaces fireplace heaters laundry water heaters cooking ranges stoves and kitchen appurtenances such as kettles urns pastry ovens and steam tables. Owing ostensibly to climbing tunnage and wharfage costs the entire operation decamped to Dover New Jersey in February 1896. Elaborate illustrations with equally elaborate cutaways; specification charts. A bit of chipping to head and foot of wrapper at spine otherwise very good in two-toned brown wrappers with gilt decoration. Pages clean and bright. Scarce. Oblong octavo 16 pages with numerous illustrations 10 pages each contain a large illustration and detailed information about individual models of bicycles two of them tandems. Saddle-stapled as issued; rusted staples no longer present resulting in minor stains and trifling loss; some marks and light stains throughout but generally inoffensive; a decent copy. The recto of each leaf is ink-stamped 'J. Mullins. Manufacturer & Importer of Bicycles 84 Pirie St Adelaide. Branch at Commercial Road Port Adelaide'. Retail prices for all but the tandem models are added in ink: they range from just over £20 to £32. To put these figures into perspective on Saturday 19 February 1898 'The Advertiser' classifieds offered for sale a four-room cottage 'with paved yard shed &c.' in Adelaide itself for £200 and a house with 'five rooms verandahs &c.' in inner-suburban Stepney for £300. A detailed and technical catalogue of the refrigeration and refrigerating machinery offered by the firm. Triumph's machinery was instrumental in growing the ability of meat packers fisheries and canners to preserve foodstuffs safe for longer. Clean and sound internally. Printed on pale blue paper a bit of loss at upper left corner just affecting the "N" and "E" in "New"; a bit marked at front wrapper. Morgan & Company produced broadsheets trade cards pamphlets blotters postcards and posters to advertise local businesses. The right hand panel with 2 circular engraved vignettes depicting the Strowbridge Sower compared with sewing seed by hand "the old way the hardest work on the farm". On the interior the two side panels with additional engraved vignettes including a bird's eye view of the factory in Racine and a calendar with each month printed at the left hand page and text pertaining to the Strowbridge Sower at the right hand page. Text includes testimonials diagrams or cuts of the working parts of the sower salaries of US officers useful construction information and US population by state or territory. Trade card for Salt Lake City's Valley House which was located at the corner of South Temple and West Temple the present-day site of Abravanel Hall. The building was originally constructed by Wilford Woodruff upon his arrival to the valley in 1847. It was converted into the Valley House Hotel in the 1870s before being demolished in 1915 to erect the Bamberger Bus Depot. The reverse prints 'Information for Tourists' which contains a brief description of the Temple Block the Salt Lake Theatre ZCMI Fort Douglas and other points of interest. unknown

Correspondence" referred to diplomatic letters between the Foreign Office and nations that had not signed treaties with Great Britain regarding the slave trade. Every year from 1830 to 1859 this correspondence was presented to both Houses of Parliament and published: this is the annual compendium covering the year 1843. And though the importation of slaves was illegal in the United States at that time there is a considerable amount of American-British interaction. Great Britain had abolished slavery in toto throughout its colonies in 1834 after the passage of the Abolition Act of 1833. It had been home to a powerful abolition movement that held influence in government for some time prior. Great Britain's economy had grew less dependent on slavery than its rivals like the US were and slave revolts on its far-flung colonies had been costly to put down. Those reasons coupled with domestic religious and social sentiment had led the British Empire to take action. Insistent British diplomatic correspondence is included here with other key major powers who had not yet signed on to trying to halt the slave trade. The present work covers contacts with Central America Equator New Granada Peru various consulates in the United States the Barbary States Egypt Turkey Crete Albania and Muscat. The nameless author disclaims any "intention to advocate the revival or regret the abolition of the Slave Trade. . . It is a traffic so objectionable in almost every respect that being abolished for the most part I hope never to see it revived and that every endeavour will be made to realize those advantages which the zeal of the authors of the Abolition has induced them to expect." <br /> However "The passage of the registration bill would constitute an unwarranted interference of the central power in the planters' private affairs" Ragatz. The property right of the West Indian colonists in their slaves is non-negotiable. Slaves comprise "the most valuable property of our colonists." Parliament's interference with "the private rights and private property of our colonists. . . would absolutely and tyrannically deprive the individuals whose property it is proposed to regulate and affect of those constitutional means of redress which all British subjects are entitled to." The pamphlet prints resolutions of West Indian Planters objecting to any such intrusions on their rights.<br /> The anonymous author objects to the African Institution's "representations of the miseries and hardships of slaves and in circulating ignorantly and unguardedly no doubt the most unfounded calumnies on the subject.
