In-8 oblungo (cm. 24.80), cartonato editoriale, sovracoperta editoriale illustrata, pp. 160, con illustrazioni in bianco e nero nel testo. Esemplare numerato tratto da una tiratura di 400 copie. Minime abrasioni alle cuffie e qualche punta della sovracoperta; ed alla cuffia inferiore del cartonato; peraltro, volume in buono stato (good copy).
Acquatinta misura: mm 245 x 297 Importante acquafortista e disegnatore attivo per lo più a Milano. Autore di un gran numero di vedute, fu il principale illustratore dell'Album Esposizione di Belle Arti in Milano. Tale album venne pubblicato annualmente dal 1839 al 1861 prima da Carlo Canadelli e poi da Giuliano Canadelli e C., in forma di strenna con tavole ritraenti le opere esposte annualmente presso l'Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera. Egli fu un abile e attento vedutista, capace di cogliere il bello della vita quotidiana tanto incidendo da sue stesse invenzioni quanto riproducendo dipinti o fotografie di altri autori. A tal proposito vale la pena ricordare la serie di vedute milanesi e non, per un totale di 119 tavole, da Dagherrotipo, primo esempio di impiego della fotografia quale modello per le incisioni. Questa stampa che fa parte della serie di 27 tavole: Vedute di Milano da disegno di Giovanni Migliora ed altri.. edite da Luigi Valeriano Pozzi 1835-38 è la numero 2 ed è tratta da un disegno dell'architetto Alessandro Sidoli (1812-1855). Viene rappresentato l'Anfiteatro, inaugurato nel 1807, nel 1870 divenne Arena Civica dopo essere passato al Comune. La realizzazione dell'edificio fu affidata all'architetto Luigi Canonica (Tesserete 1762 -Milano 1844) e la forma di anfiteatro venne scelta per ricordare la tradizione imperiale romana. Fu un luogo deputato a celebrazioni, feste e spettacoli. In questo foglio vediamo una veduta prospettica presa da un punto rialzato, forse un pallone aerostatico, la quale non solo ci mostra tutta l'Arena con i visitatori sia all'interno che all'esterno ma anche la campagna circostante fino alle catene montuose sullo sfondo. All'interno dell'arena si sta svolgendo uno spettacolo di corse di cavalli e all'esterno una folla animata inonda il primo piano. Intesi contrasti chiaroscurali intensificano le zone chiare e ci fanno immergere in un caldo pomeriggio ottocentesco. In basso oltre l'immagine incisi, "Ales. Sidoli dis. dal vero L. Cherbuin inc", titolo e editore Pozzi con timbro a secco in basso nell'angolo sinistro. Impressione eccellente. Ottimo stato di conservazione, eccetto leggero foxing sparso e un piccolo strappo lungo il margine superiore. Ampi margini oltre la battuta del rame.
