Pittore, filosofo, regista e romanziere, Pierre Klossowski (1905) è scomparso a Parigi nell'estate del 2001. Grande intellettuale del Novecento, su di lui in Italia è stato scritto molto poco, forse perché la sua estrema poliedricità ne ha fatto il più "inclassificabile" dei pensatori contemporanei. In questo volume l’autore mette in evidenza che i suoi ispiratori sono senz'altro Sade e Nietzsche, veri e proprio alter ego klossowskiani, nel loro tentativo di giungere ai limiti estremi del pensiero. Limite a cui Klossowski tende costantemente, proseguendo nella strada da loro tracciata, con la sua riflessione sulle forme (linguaggio, corpo, immagine...) e sulla necessità di scavarle e superarle. Prigione e varco al tempo stesso, le forme ci consentono una doppia possibilità: quella di rimanerne alla superficie, sulla loro soglia, o di andare oltre, immergendoci in esse – come fa Narciso quando vede la sua immagine riflessa sull'acqua – per vederne l’ambiguità, noi stessi. Klossowski quindi si occupa innanzitutto di conoscenza e, attraverso la conoscenza, di metafisica: è quanto afferma Brivio definendolo "uno degli ultimi metafisici occidentali".
