A later patriotic poem which notes that the Patriots of Phoenix High have "jacked old "Uncle Sammy" to bring justice "to the Hun". It goes on to say they did this by buying liberty bonds. It lists 185 of their older classmates who served in World War I four of whom died in the conflict. The school did not open in the Fall until December 16 because of the influenza crisis. Also there are large ads for some of the well-known Phoenix business some with a patriotic note such as Donofrios which suggests that while "you are thinking about that soldier Boy send him a box of their Cactus Candy."
