"Despite the enormous interest in the works of contemporary studio potters worldwide surprisingly few books explore the best of these works in a large full-color format. Great Pots: Contemporary Ceramics from Function to Fantasy does exactly that. With a focus on The Newark Museum's collection it is both a feast for the eyes and a testament to the power of the pot. Striking images and fascinating commentary demonstrate how a small pot can be a masterpiece and how even the most outrageous sculptural vessels of the 1990s share fundamental meanings with the craft pots of the 1950s. Two hundred color photographs taken especially for this book invite the reader to explore and relish this collection of truly great pots."--BOOK JACKET. GUILD Publishing hardcover

Grant V1 is an autobiographical book written by the 18th President of the United States Ulysses S. Grant. The book is a detailed account of his life starting from his childhood in Ohio to his military career during the American Civil War and his presidency. The first volume covers Grant's early life including his education at West Point his experiences in the Mexican-American War and his resignation from the military. The book also provides insight into Grant's personal life including his marriage to Julia Dent and his struggles with alcoholism. The memoirs offer a unique perspective on the Civil War as Grant was one of the most important generals on the Union side. The book provides a firsthand account of some of the most significant battles of the war including the Siege of Vicksburg and the Battle of Appomattox Court House. Overall the Personal Memoirs of Ulysses S. Grant V1 is a fascinating and insightful book that provides readers with a detailed look into the life of one of America's most important historical figures.1885. Part One of Two. The memoirs of the 18th president of the United States who was a puzzling figure in American public life. He was a failure in his early ventures into both business and military life. In four years of commanding Union forces he climbed to the highest rank in the U.S. Army and directed the strategy that successfully concluded the Civil War in 1865. His two terms as president of the United States are considered by many historians to be the most corrupt in the country's history. Yet from accounts of Grant's contemporaries as well as from his own memoirs there emerges a personality of strong character and considerable dignity. Grant is an autobiography by Ulysses S. Grant the 18th President of the United States focused mainly on his military career during the Mexican–American War and the American Civil War and completed as he was dying of throat cancer in 1885. The two-volume set was published by Mark Twain shortly after Grant's death.Twain created a unique marketing system designed to reach millions of veterans with a patriotic appeal just as Grant's death was being mourned. Ten thousand agents canvassed the North following a script that Twain had devised; many were veterans who dressed in their old uniforms. They sold 350000 two-volume sets at prices from $3.50 to $12 depending on the binding roughly $100 to $330 in 2018. Each copy contained what looked like a handwritten note from Grant himself. In the end Grant's widow Julia received about $450000 suggesting a gross royalty before expenses of about 30%</p> Independently published hardcover
