Piccole strofinature ininfluenti e qualche leggerissima fioritura in poche pagine dovuta alla qualità della carta ma nel complesso bellissima copia in bella legatura coeva. Prima edizione di questo celebre racconto di viaggio del celebre esploratore e geografo francese Henri Anatole Coudreau originario di Sonnac. L'autore fu tra i primi ad esplorare la Guyana francese e a risalire il Rio delle Amazzoni. Questo celebre racconto venne terminato dalla moglie dello stesso Codreau che lo seguì nelle sue esplorazioni, morto nei dintorni del lago Tapagem . durante il tentativo di raggiungere le sorgenti del Rio delle Amazzoni. L'opera è illustrata da 98 bellissime incisioni, 18 delle quali a piena pagina. Prima edizione in buone condizioni di conservazione ed in bella e ricca legatura coeva. First edition, a good copy.

L'ordre habituel de reliure a été interverti : la Lettre à Madame *** sur l'émeute... vient en premier, complète de la gravure dépliante "Vue d'une place préparée pour une course de taureaux", avec les Pièces justificatives en espagnol et français sur 2 colonnes, suivie de la Relation abrégée... avec privilège du roi et certificat du secrétaire perpétuel Grand-Jean de Fouchy. Carte dépliante du cours du Maragnon. Bandeaux, lettrines et culs-de-lampe à travers l'ouvrage. Édition originale du récit de l'expédition de La Condamine (1701-1774) au Pérou pour y mesurer le diamètre de la Terre. La carte gravée accompagnant le texte fut dessinée par La Condamine, et c'est la première où les latitudes sont observées. Il en rapporta le caoutchouc et la première description de l'arbre « quinquina ». Une expédition qui démontra la théorie de Newton, selon laquelle la Terre est légèrement écrasée aux pôles et d'un diamètre un peu plus large à l'Équateur, et fit date en termes de géographie et de connaissance de l'Amazone en France. An interesting association copy from the library of Sarah Begum, a fellow of the Royal Geographic Society who, like the author, was one of very few outsiders who lived among the Huaorani. SIGNED by Begum on the front free endpaper, with a small sketch of a canoe and paddle. Folio. Publisher's laminated boards. Extremities lightly bumped, else FINE AND BRIGHT. Very rare and important.
