ABOUT THE BOOK:- Wuthering Heights, Emily Brontë's only novel, was published in 1847 under the pseudonym "Ellis Bell". It was written between October 1845 and June 1846. Although Wuthering Heights is now a classic of English literature, contemporaneous reviews were deeply polarised; it was controversial because of its unusually stark depiction of mental and physical cruelty, and it challenged strict Victorian ideals regarding religious hypocrisy, morality, social classes and gender inequality. Wuthering Heights includes the following aspects: It contains elements of gothic fiction. The moorland setting is quite significant. The book is very puzzling and very interesting. A "strangely original" book that depicts "humanity in the wild state." The book is "illuminated by some gleams of sunshine towards the end." Bold and unique, Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights is a heartbreaking tale of love, loss and vengeance. The novel has inspired adaptations, including film, radio and television dramatisations, a musical, a ballet, operas, and a song by Kate Bush. ABOUT THE AUTHOR:- Emily Jane Brontë was an English novelist and poet who is best known for her only novel, Wuthering Heights, now considered a classic of English literature. She was the third-eldest of the four surviving Brontë siblings, between the youngest Anne and her brother Branwell. She published under the pen nameEllis Bell. Emily Brontë was born on 30 July 1818 to Maria Branwell and an Irish father, Patrick Brontë. She was the sister of Charlotte and Anne Brontë, also famous authors. After the death of their mother in 1821, the children were left very much to themselves in the bleak moorland rectory. The children were educated, during their early life, at home, except for a single year that Charlotte and Emily spent at the Clergy Daughters’ School in Lancashire. Emily was perhaps the greatest of the three Brontë sisters, but the record of her life is extremely meagre, for she was silent and reserved and left no correspondence of interest. In -4°, cc. 120 + 5 + 1. Nice xilography on title, with an abusive Giunti printer’s mark on red; title on red and black, initials. A rare edition of D’Andrea “Mercuriales”, with remarks of Nicholas de Bohier. Giovanni D’Andrea (1271-1348) was one of the major juris of his time: this is a deep collection of juridic questions, early considered a cornerstone of Canon Law. A friend of Petrarca and Cino Da Pistoia, D’Andrea was also a key player of the Bologna university.
