179029742<p>This 1790 French edition of Les commentaires de CeÌsar by Julius Caesar translated and edited by Henry Homer and Samuel Clarke presents a landmark Enlightenment-era interpretation of Rome's military campaigns. Contained within a two-volume 12mo format the edition includes the full text of De Bello Gallico and Aulus Hirtius' continuation Bellum Alexandrinum. Of particular note are the four double-page engraved maps often separated from other examples but here fully intact. Sammells issued this volume in London despite the French text reflecting international scholarly exchange in the late 18th century.
