In-8° grande (cm 26,2), pp. 57 con 8 FIGURE in bianco e nero nel testo. Dorso sollato dall'intrno, con usure presso le cuffie, ma buon es. Aurum Tolosanum (Oro di Tolosa) è un'espressione latina che individua il nucleo fondante di una fortunata tradizione letteraria, avvolta da aloni mitici e leggendari, il cui reale fondamento non è ben conosciuto: infatti, alle frequenti menzioni di epoca imperiale, provenienti da fonti sia greche che latine, viene attribuito un valore storico pressoché nullo"... immenso tesoro, proveniente dall'ipotetico e sacrilego sacco del santuario di Apollo a Delfi, che sarebbe avvenuto durante la Grande spedizione del 279 a.C., storicamente avvenuta in Grecia ad opera di contingenti celtici di eterogenea provenienza. In seguito a questa incursione, una frazione tribale del popolo dei Volci Tectosagi, facente parte dell'onda di ritorno dell'invasione, lo avrebbe condotto in Gallia meridionale per deporlo in un santuario celtico presso Tolosa. L'aura di maledizione che accompagnava quel bottino sarebbe stata alla base della disfatta patita dai Romani nella battaglia di Arausio del 105 a.C. (wiki, che non cita la nostra fonte). SEGRE, fratello delll'antifascista Umberto, grande epigrafista specializzato sull'Ellenismo, era allora insegnante a Bressanone, poi libero docente, radiato per le leggi razziali, alcuni suoi scritti ritirati, deportato nonostante l'intervento di mons. Montini, e ucciso con moglie e figloletto le sera stessa dell'arrivo a Auschwitz. Come estratto è censito alla sola Biblioteca di Studi giuridici e umanistici di Milano.

SEGRE, fratello delll'antifascista Umberto, grande epigrafista specializzato sull'Ellenismo, nel 1930 vinse una borsa di studio della Regia Scuola archeologica italiana di Atene e nel 1931 il concorso dell'Istituto storico-archeologico di Rodi. Dal 1934 libero docente, radiato per le leggi razziali, alcuni suoi scritti ritirati, per delazione deportato nonostante l'intervento di mons. Montini, e ucciso con moglie e figloletto le sera stessa dell'arrivo a Auschwitz. Es. appartenuto a Giuseppe Corradi. Come estratto è censito alla sola Biblioteca Universitaria di Pavia.

He then discusses the Oxyrhynchus historian's style and method - his sources, chronology, bias, interest in causation, etc. The introduction ends with a résumé of the numerous theories of the author's identity (Dr Bruce favours either Cratippus or an author not known to us by name at all). The main part of the commentary is arranged in the form of notes on the sections of the Greek text, with occasional detailed notes on particular words or phrases. There are appendices on the Battle of Sardis and the Constitution of Boeotia; and the book concludes with a full biography.
