Zandee's original doctoral dissertation, presented at the Leiden University, July 1960. This was his second doctor's degree after he obtained his Doctor of Theology degree in 1948. [AND:] The present copy includes the rare 21-point Thesis Statement (Octavo, Pp. 8, self-wrappers), loosely inserted. The dissertation, translated from the Dutch manuscript, was published simultaneously in "Studies in the History of Religions, Supplements to 'Numen' V". [Provenance:] From the library of Egyptologist Prof. Dr. Herman De Meulenaere (1923-2011), who kept inside the book for 20 years Zandee's (1914-1991) death announcement letter.

Plus 118 fine photographic reproductions, all printed in collotype on 77 leaves of plates, some full- or double-page, including 2 fold-out panoramas and a double-page map. Many of the photographs are accompanied by explanatory hand-drawn illustrations, printed on the plates. Original loose gatherings, not yet bound as issued. Wreszinski's written report accompanies a superbly produced photographic document, taken entirely on location and published here for the first time. Collotype is one of the most accurate and attractive methods of photomechanical tonal printing processes. Highly skilled and expensive process, it cannot produce more than a limited number of impressions. It has been used for single-sheet prints and luxury portfolios, and since the 1950s has been abandoned by all except a few small specialist firms.
