330 pages including index and extensive notes. The raw facts and record of direct testimony presented make this a disturbing book. "Shows how institutions and practices, once established, lead to a state of mind in which no alternative seems feasible. What then to do about men whom the prison authorities feel they cannot handle in any way except isolation?... Jackson's book is remarkable in that it presents a model for reform." - The Honourable Thomas R. Berger. Unmarked with light wear and soiling. Each chapter covers a key camp or work project and includes a detailed chronology of the camp, personal accounts of the survivors and formerly banned and previously unpublished archival photographs." - dust jacket.
