NO underlining. NO highlighting. NO margin notes. Foreword by Raymond B. Fosdick. The author was New York City's first policewoman. This book is based on her experiences as a pioneer in the field. There are 18 chapters including WOMAN'S PLACE IN A POLICE DEPARTMENT; EDUCATING POLICEWOMEN; THE POLICEWOMAN AS A DETECTIVE; THE POLICEWOMAN AND THE LAW; COOPERATION AMONG POLICEWOMAN; etc. In the final chapter the author states: " The policewoman of today in her service and ideals foreshadows the policewoman of the future In the future there will be more policewomen. Edited by Sir John Hall One of the Notable British Trials Series First American Edition 8vo size black clothbound hardcover with gilt titles on the spine; 402 deckle edged pages with red topstain black and white frontispiece on glossy stock and several other full page black and white illustrations also on glossy stock. This volume covers the 1886 trial of Adelaide Bartlett for the poisoning death of her husband Thomas. Also known as the Pimlico Poisoning Mystery the mystery of the case was how Thomas Edwin Bartlett died from a fatal dose of chloroform. The contents break the book down into the six days of the trial including the verdict. The dust jacket is in poor condition with large chips missing from the front back and spine. There are several tears on the back of jacket. There is a name and price on the fep. The rear pastedown is cracked. Lightly bumped corners and head and heel of spine.
