Maxime Weygand minimizes the scope of his work preferring to evoke that of other military men who became writers: ""Je ne parle pas des quelques pages écrites pour la réédition du ""rôle social de l'officier du Mal Lyautey."" ""I do not speak of the few pages written for the reissue of 'the social role of the officer by Marshal Lyautey.'"". unknown

The correspondent and biographer of the general had returned documents to him in order to document the work he intended to write about Maxime Weygand who acknowledges receipt. However Maxime Weygand shows surprise at the interest he arouses and attempts to dissuade his correspondent from his undertaking: ""Mais cette étude sur le Gal W. écrivain c'est un sujet qui a bien peu de substance ! Vous avez trop de générosité en l'entreprenant il faut y renoncer."" ""But this study on General W. as a writer it is a subject with very little substance! You are too generous in undertaking it you must give it up."" unknown

The Immortal Maxime Weygand congratulates his now fellow member Thierry Maulnier elected to replace the vacant seat of Henry Bordeaux on February 13 1964: ""Mon cher confrère une ligne pour vous dire mon immense satisfaction de vous nommer ainsi."" My dear colleague a line to tell you my immense satisfaction in naming you thus. after a first ""blank"" election held in November 1963 during which Thierry Maulnier had obtained 14 votes against 11 for André Roussin: ""Cela fait oublier le passé qui fut un moment fort déplaisant. Donc cher confrère et ami mes chaleureux compliments de tout coeur."" This makes one forget the past which was at times quite unpleasant. J'ai écrit ces deux articles ""La prise de commandement d'un chef"" et ""Au tournant de la route"" quelques jours après la mort du Maréchal Foch et sur les sollicitations des uns et des autres dans un moment où la tristesse où j'étais plongé m'avait comme retiré du monde."" I have been constantly traveling lately. Here I am quite embarrassed. I wrote these two articles ""Taking Command as a Leader"" and ""At the Turn of the Road"" a few days after Marshal Foch's death and at the urging of various people at a time when the sadness I was plunged into had withdrawn me from the world. and cannot answer his correspondent's question: ""Vraiment je ne sais plus et je n'ai rien ici qui me permette de mieux savoir."" Truly I no longer know and I have nothing here that would allow me to know better. unknown

Je viens de constater en lisant les dbats quil vous laisse toutes vos facults et il faut quelles soient solides en ce moment. Gurissez-vous... ajoute-t-il mme si ...il fait un vilain temps o le ciel est gris comme les esprits...Remarqu aprs ses tudes par le marchal Joffre et le gnral Foch, il est nomm chef dtat-major en 1914. Il voyage dans de nombreux pays durant sa carrire militaire, comme la Pologne, le Liban et la Syrie. Ne souhaitant pas la capitulation de la France au dbut de la Seconde Guerre Mondiale, il devient malgr lui ministre de la Dfense nationale dans le cabinet de Ptain, puis dlgu gnral du gouvernement en Afrique du Nord. Il collabore alors avec les Amricains, ce qui lui vaudrait un non-lieu en 1948.
